i have a 96 gst spyder. as anyone can tell the FWD cars spin the tires pretty bad. i want want to save some money, so what is the advantages of the lsd inserts. what do they do. is it worth using them or do i need to just save for like 6 mo. (broke me) and get the limited slip differential?

Obviously the better choice will be the true LSD. If your goals are not going to be over 300-350WHP then the inserts would be the budget choice and do fine.

I run the SBR inserts in my car with ~300WHP and they work great. They have been on the car since Dec 05 with no problems what-so-ever. Straight line acceleration is dramatically better with hardly any noticeable torque steer, coming out of corners makes you want to "squirt" :D compared to OEM.

But basically the inserts are 2 plates with 4 springs between them that puts pressure against the gears.

thanks, where can i get some like that. all thats on ebay is OBX and i've heard anything they make isn't worth putting on your car. they have the inserts on the link here, but where could i possibly find a good deal on SBR inserts, seeing how i live in Alabama and there aren't really any performance parts shops here!

Look on thier website. They are one of the site vendors Slow Boy Racing. Much cheaper than a real LSD.:thumb:

how much did it cost to install those?

I already had the tranny out for a clutch job, and had a buddy do it for $100. Shop around, obviously if you know someone it'll be cheaper than just taking it to a random shop. And taking the tranny out/in yourself will save labor rates also.

Someone once told me that those inserts work so well you won't even know they are there. (Basically not worth the money). Now I have some SBR parts and they work really well. I would never buy inserts like this off of EBAY...You'll probably getting somthign that will blow up under a hard launch.
