Lowering my car

I'm sure most people will tell you to get a good set of struts and springs.... I've been looking at a coilover set from Megan Racing, called EZ Street Coilovers. All depends on budget really, oh and how long you want it to last.

Well, it's going to be street driven. For my car, it's just going to be about looks. So all I really need to know is what parts I need to lower it.

If youre strictly going for looks, go with the megan lowering springs, theyre like
130$ and you dont have to buy struts, I would, if you have the funds bc its best to go ahead and put new ones in while you have all that stuff apart, but its not required. Im using the Megan springs and I love them, they ride great, just a touch softer than stock. The ride is still great, it lowered my 2g Talon about 3" all the way around after they settled.

For that much of a drop you can't have stock struts!!

This is terrible advice.

OP, if you want to lower your car do it correctly and purchase a good set of struts designed for lowering and a set of quality springs of you choice. You will also want to get some kind of camber correction kit for the rear to prevent premature tire wear. I personally like the Tokico Illumina struts with Eibach pro-kit springs.

Terrible advice? youre an Idiot. He is asking for options, and megan springs are just that. He can add struts any time. Did you even read his inital post?

Okay so.. I am completely clueless when it comes to shocks, springs, etc. But I was hoping someone could help me. I want to lower my car, let's say, 1.5".
What is everything that I need?

A hacksaw.

/thread

Maybe next time you'll use the hacksaw on your springs, instead of your tires. Although the math backs up the idea that a car on totally flat tires will be about 1.5" lower.

In a nutshell, Koni Yellows, Eibach Pro-Kit, and new upper and lower strut hardware. ( Lowering your car properly is by no means cheap. Look to spend close to $1000 for parts and installation. ) I'll let you search for all the part numbers. :)

The problem with lowering your car is most aftermarket springs/struts and even coilovers are cheap as hell. Very little R&D goes into most aftermarket parts and especially on our car. The fact they are even supported after all this time is fairly amazing.

The problem with cheap lowering springs and struts is they eventually blow out. Not even in a respectable amount of time.

Good ones aren't horribly expensive but you need to find a match of spring and strut to your car's weight.

The coilovers made for our cars are for the most part.... crap. The megan (and even Emusa) are cheap and one of the better coil overs for under a grand for our cars, I'm not going to say they are shit... but they aren't what I'd want out of a coilover. If you wanted to lower it on coilovers you need to spend quite a bit of money.

However if you wanted to throw all that out of the window and use struts/springs/coilovers that are cheap and will blow out or actually reduce your handling over stock.

I'm sure there are a lot of newbies who are going to argue over this, but all of the autox and road course guys are going to agree and they do have the first hand experience.

If you want to cheaply lower your car you can get the Emusa set, which is good enough for daily driving, but don't expect to be able to dial them in for performance and they actually reduce handling. You can also go with Eibach struts and springs for roughly the same price as the Emusa set if you want to go that route, personally I think the Eibach set is a better ride, but you have fixed ride height.

Eibach prokit is what I am on and I love it. Id go with kyb agx for the struts.. wouldn't recommend the eibach sportlines, most people say the drop is too severe and they end up going with a set up with less lowering later down the road.

ROFL

Lower it?? WHY?! Everyone and their grand aunties have lowered 2g's... it's old news. Now, if you sky jacked that sucker over a set of 33" off road truck tires on some Rancho's and air bags, with a 6" body lift (so we can see the bottom of the motor), and some brush gaurds........ I would be seriously impressed. :hellyeah:

Really. One of these days I am going to find a trashed out wreck of a GSX and put bigass truck tires on it and go mud boggin'. You have to admit, that'd be fun. :D Those guys driving the Jeeps and trucks would see that and all immediately look like this: WTF

Been a while from the post date but...
To accurately answer your question. First we need to know your budget and then your goals.
If you want to sacrifice for a bumpy ride or a soft comfy ride?

100 bucks ebay cheapy coil over set works just fine... just a little bumpy though.
