Low Idle Oil press.,cause of oil weight?

I am havin an issue with my car, like usual. When I first start it up, the oil pressure is about 30-45 psi on a warm day, on a cold day more about 60-70....but once the motor warms up to operating temp and the oil temp gets to about 170-180, the idle oil pressure drops to ~10 psi. but when I am on the gas and the rpms are up, the oil pressure is fine, 2000 rpm about 28-30, 3000 rpm about 37-38, etc. Is my idle problem caused by the 10-40 oil im using, should i try 20-50 or something? or is it the oil pump its self?

i get around 50psi untill it warms up. idles at about 15psi when warm and runs around 75psi at 3500rpm's on the highway.

Low oil pressure at idle is normal. You need 10 psi of oil pressure per 1000 RPMs. Stick with the oil you are using.

Dylan, my factory gauge reads almost nothing at idle. I checked it with a manual gauge and it is around 10 PSI at idle and it goes up 10 PSI/1000 RPM. I would suggest a synthetic oil as I have found they hold their pressure longer than conventionals which break down with the heat much sooner. Mark

what would resetting my base timing and idle have to do with it, my base timing is 5 deg. advanced just like it should be and my base idle is 750-800 rpm
