Low boost after start up.

For a while now i have been noticing that my boost gauge has been reading 8-9 psi when it use to run 11psi. Just recentally when i go to start my car it turns over struggles to start, does it a second time and the third time i turn it over it eventually runs with some struggle, but as soon as i start driving it it's not too bad. I'm just wondering if this is a result of boost leaks, computer/sensor problems or a combination of both?

This boost reading is at Wide Open Throttle?
im assuming your car is stock or close to it?

Startup strugle could be several things, but yeah a boost leak could be one of them, but I'd check things like:

Fuel related
-Fuel pressure
-Fuel pressure selenoid
-Fuel pressure filter
Ignition related
-Spark plugs correctly gapped
-Spark plug wires
-Base timing set right
Also but not necesarily last
-Boost leak

The way you describe it, im leaning towards fuel related problem... but at this point many things could cause that. heck even a nasty/real-old/clogged to hell air filter.

Yea I have an aftermarket boost gauge, and yes it's basically stock, just kn filter and free mods so it cant be air filter, i did order a new fuel filter b/c i dont think it was ever changed and also a pcv valve b/c dipstick was poppin up...I dont know if that has anything to do with it. Yea it does have 146k so somthing like this is bound to happen just gotta figure out whats wrong.

If it's only starting hard when cold, I'd look at the temperature sensor. It may be out of calibration. You can use a scan tool to compare cold ambient temperature to what the ect says it is. If it is say -40 and it's actually 50 outside, it would run extrememly rich. If it says it's 210 and it's actually 50 then it would be way too lean to start.

If it's hard to start all the time, I would still scan the pcm for any codes. If that doesn't show anything, then start looking for things that make it lean. IE vacuum leaks and such.


Also, check the above suggested things. Sometimes you never know till you see it.

Now does the temperature sensor have to do with how fast the car heats up like for the heat to come on in the car, b/c my dad did mention something about needing a new temperature thing whatever works the heater I dont know if that is the temperature sensor or not?

wait im an idiot i was thinking of a thermostat , i will have my dad pull up the stuff, hes a mechanic so thats one nice thing easy access to tools like that!
