loud ticking sound!! help!

So on cold start ups my car has a loud ticking sound coming from the intake manifold...its really loud at first and then when i start to drive the ticking gets faster then after i hit boost it goes away and theres no ticking.....any ideas?

Sounds to me like some harmless lifter tick. Upgrading to 3g lifters would solve your problem.

The stock lifters have only a 1mm oiling port and on cold startups, oil isn't able to get in there as quickly. This doesn't hurt your engine in any way...it's just annoying.

3g lifters solved this problem with 3mm oiling ports.

They can be had relatively cheap on eBay.

Ok i hope its just the lifters...so it wont damage my engine at all? i was get nervous just picked the car up..but the sound does go away after driving a little but there is still always a little ticking sound but can only hear it when u open the hood so im guessing thats nothing major

Do u have a direct link to some 3g lifters? and are they pretty easy to install?

Yeah I notice mine tick every once and a while on cold start ups but like stated before, just an annoyance.

That ticking means your car is running , when the ticking stops is when you should worry and see what broke.

I think it might have to do with the oil i put in... I put mobile 1 5w/30 full synthetic and i was reading that a lot of people use 10w/30...Could that be why?

Lifter tick is that shit that every DSM owner will come to hate. It's just annoying as sin, but not harmful in any way.

Alright thanks maybe ill try and take them out and clean them and see if that helps...aka I am going to be moving out by kzoo in august do they ever have any DSM meets out there?
