. To make a quick story I just picked up a 2g gst out if time a couple teeth with a low mileage short block. It was making a loud tapping sound in the top end it sounded like to me. It never got drove that way. Well I pulled it apart checked the timing it was about 3 teeth out so I timed it put on a new hydrolic tensioner and started it and got the same tapping noise. Sounds like its near #1 cylinder so I pulled the valve cover and checked the lifters and looked at the valves the best I could and didn't see anything so I done a compression test also got about 140 from cylinders 1-3 and 4 had about 120. Which I've been told is OK for now. But I can't figure out the noise. I had been suggested that it could be a rod but it sounds up high to me. So I guess I'm going to drop the pan and check my rods this week. But also when I was doing the timing belt I noticed my oil pump sprocket was snug. U could still turn it fine but it wouldn't do the dropping counter clockwise trick because it was so tight. I've read that it could be my balance shaft bearings. What is you guys suggestions?
. I looked at the lifters but didnt pull them out and check them. I couldnt push down on any of them but that doesnt mean crap. And pardon my brain fart but what is the HLA.
