toronto,
changed the alternator belt, tension is proper, had another dsmer with me, we compared everything to his car so its fine.
2 days ago the old belt went PUFF like crazy, but now it squeels when you turn it on, and continues to squeel after that.
im stumped, everything spins, nothing appears to be seized, anyone have any ideas, im in a serious pinch!
tia

sounds like the bearing in one of the pulleys, maybe it was damaged when it went "puff". You probably had no tension on that bearing before and now you do so...Too tight maybe? or probably already too far worn.

im thinking i might juss take off the ps belt see if it goes away, if it does than i know what to fix, if not im going to take alt belt off, and clean all the pulleys.
after that im going to cry.

Mine does the same thing I've been too lazy to take it to the shop that has it under warranty...is it possible the belt is too tight?

You can also use belt dressing that you can buy at a walmart for $2 - $4 a can. It works excellent.

I say check tension again and pulleys. Also do as you stated and check the power steering belt. I had a a sequel under the hood and that's what it was.

Don't use belt dressing. Yes, it can fix the squeel temporarily, but it won't solve the problem permanently. Putting a lubricant on a belt that is supposed to grip is not a great idea.

Wow really? We've been waiting 5 years for you to post such useful info. Great job! I'll rep you in 5 years. :thumb:

Is your Long lower alternator bolt hitting your belt ?
If you didn't turn it to fit in it's slot, the nut can work
loose & the Long bolt likes drifting out & chews ya belt.
Cheers !

Everytime I touch my belts for any reason my alternator belt will squeal once reinstalled. Make sure the belt is not too tight, take it completely off, and then put it back on. This always has fixed mine.

My belts would be fine for a while, then start squeaking more and more as time went on. The alternator belt was coming loose so I had it tightened and that solved my problem
