Loose timing belt after sitting

My cars been sitting for a while now and I went to replace the valve cover gasket and noticed that my timing belt was pretty loose. Have not done any work on the head so could just sitting there for 2 months cause it to loosen up?

It is 100% normal. The cams will try to find a relaxed position and cause the timing belt to loosen up between the gears. If your really concerned about it, check the timing marks and give it a good crank. I think you'll find the belt tension is much more reasonable afterwards.

There was a lot of talk going on about this, and some time back I stumbled across that thread and read through. I had a WTF? moment myself about that valvetrain relaxation effect between the sprockets, but it's normal.
