Kitchener,
My shifter is pretty loose going from up and down position, i checked under the hood and took apart the arm that the cables attatch to... it seems like the arm is loose in the tranny itself? any ideas?

If you take your center console out there should be a bolt that connects the shifter to the linkage. It might be loose. I know that was a problem I had after I installed my short shifter. Snugged it up a little better and problem solved!

well ive done all the mods for the shifter base and everything else you can do to it.. its all tight inside the car and ive adjusted the cable many times but still nothing, when i look at the arm the cables connects to under the hood it will move like its loose but i cant figure out how to make that arm/connector tighter..

well thats the thing, i did take it all apart but the arm just goes into the tranny, and i cant dint anything to tighten it up, does anyone know how to remove it without removing the tranny?

check to make sure your clips that hold the cables in place(not the pins attaching them to the shifter and tranny), are tight, and not starting to pop out. I had one pop out and shiftin went all to h#ll.

no clips have moved , i can actually wiggle the arm on the tranny that moves up and down to shift, it has play it self....if someone can post a pic of the tranny i could tell you exactly what it is

Well, the shifting process goes as follows

knob>arm>bushings>cables>bushings>transmission shifter arms>rods>shift forks>synchros

you need to isolate the problem by holding one item down and wiggling and seeing how much play there is in each item.

I have owned a bunch of 1Gs with all sort of shifting problems, believe me that everything can be fixed, but you have to use proper diagnostic procedures while determining what is wrong

I hope this helps

well i have looked at everythiing and its all tight and fine except for the piece that the shifter cable connects to on the tranny itself.... there is a arm on the right that connects to a lower arm that moved up and down in the tranny. that arm itself has play witch gives me play on the lever.
