Looking to Turbo My N/T In A Few Months

Okay so this summer I'm really looking to start getting my hands dirty and getting some real experience with my car. Last year when I bought my car I barely knew what the clutch did. However I've been reading and studying over the past year about turbos for our cars and just turbos/engines and everything about cars in general. I never wanted to invest in a turbo because I wanted to have some idea of what was going on with my car first. So once I get enough money, I'm looking to get a small turbo. What do you guys think about a 14b? What would you all recommend as the best setup for a 14b? Would I HAVE to upgrade my ECU? Also what about my clutch/flywheel? Since it's not that much power would I be okay running a stock clutch/flywheel? I plan on getting new pistons. Also if any of you have any sites or places that you recommend getting my parts from please feel free to post them. Thanks in advance :thumb:
 
Well, first you say you it's not going to be that much power you would not need new pistons. I would recommend starting at 7-9psi. You would need something to tune with. I don't know how easy it is to put a turbo ecu into a 1g. But if you don't have a knock sensor than I highly recommend being able to tune your fuel and timing. I didn't what to deal with swapping ecus and tapping for knock senors so I am running the safc 2 and msd dis 2 which can be used on 1gs.

Other than that you need new injectors, exhuast, intake, intercooler, at least a boost gauge. Remember almost all of these parts you can find used on the forum, unless you have lots of money.

Cfm is what you need to look into with the turbo you choice, a bigger turbo at low boost like a 50 trim if you have the stabilitiy to afford it money wise will do you good..

yeah its the 4g63...and I probably won't have enough money for a bigger turbo
 
Your best bet would then be to find a wrecked or blown up motor in a junkyard and take the whole turbo setup from that or the salvagable parts. You will need the gst/gsx water pipe, injectors, resistor pack, turbo manifold. dp. o2 housing, turbo, turbo fuel pump and alot more that can add up if you buy it seperately..
 
what do you have to tap for the knock sensor? they have the threaded hole in the back of the motor for it... I just did an NA swap in my TSI AWD and it works great... I run 10 psi and it feels gggrrrreeeaaaaattt! I could turn it up more, but I have no fuel mods and no tuning thingy (DSMlink, SAFC, MAF-T)....
