Looking into a used DSM.. what to look for???

saw a decently priced 90 GS Turbo 5spd and i was wondering what to look for that could be wrong with the car... i dont know the exact mileage yet, but i will find that out today.. any tips???

how hard are the 1st gen motors to rebuild if needed???

how much is the car you saw ? ( by me there is a REAL nice 91 talon (n/a) 5-speed for $1500
as you see you can get non turbos pretty cheep, thats one thing to look for.

its a white 90 GS-Turbo 5spd located in maryland... around 80K on the original motor... the guy wants about $2500 for it... maybe i can get it down to about 2200 so i can afford insurance on it!

ask when the last time he had the timing belts changed. Ask if it burns any oil (thats a no brainer), how does it shift? Is it a turbo GS or a GST??

Poke your head around and see what you see, and what might look "off". Remember it is a 15 year old car. Or you could bring it in for a diagnostic check before you buy it.

you actually might know the fella that i saw this evening.. he lives in arnold MD and his name is DON... he and his son have lots of DSM's they need to sell because the county sais he has too many cars... i went for a drive in the GS-turbo but that needs quite a bit of work... he did show me a 90 TSI fwd though... pretty quick for stock.. but i just couldnt see myself buying it... i thought of them playing with the computers and swapping parts out like crazy from other cars just to make them work didnt appease me too well... i'll find a dsm with all original parts and rebuild the internals myself...
