The metal trim piece under the windshield on my car is rusty and I want to sand it down and paint it. Does anyone have a part number or a link for the weatherstrip that goes in between the trim and the windshield?

What year car? One suggestion if you fill out your profile page with your car and its modifications its will be easy for members on the boards to help you when you post an issue with your car we will at least know if its a 2g or 1g;)

Haven't checked at a dealer yet. The car is a 92 GSX.

That's not actually windshield trim. That rubber strip is part of the cowling piece. When you remove the cowling, the rubber piece will come with it.

As far as a replacement goes, you'd need to find a new cowl with the new rubber strip attached, or find something to use a substitute. My suggestion would be to stop by a local auto glass place, and see if they have anything that will work for you. Whatever you get, it will need to be attached with adhesive, as that's how the original rubber is attached to the cowling. Look for a local Safelite place, or something similar. See if they have a universal piece of window seal that's close to the same size and shape.

Alternatively, you can put a WTB in the classifieds looking for a used cowl that's nicer than yours. You have options.

Thanks. I think I'll take your advice and check with a glass company.

DSM fans,
I found a solution to locating the lower windshield cowl seal. As much time and effort I spent spinning my wheels trying to get a replacement cowl., I wound up refinishing the original with good quality rattle can paint. As for the seal, I found some from China on ebay. You will need to use adhesive (not silicone) to hold it place. For not a lot of money you can have a new looking cowl. Good luck out there.

Do you have a link or suggestions for the thickness of the seal we would need to use? That cowl trim is cracked for in multiple places so I'd also like to just replace the seal under the cowl like you did. Photos also help :)
