I have a 1990 eclipse gs 2.0L and my rubber air filter duct hose has a big rip in the center where it bends, I currently have a seal over the rip. I'm looking for a cold air intake to upgrade the system instead of just getting another air filter duct from another eclipse at pick a part or something. I have looked on ebay and rockauto and did many searches but no luck find an cold air intake for my year and model. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should look or if you have one in your Dsm where did you find it. And if I can't find any cold air intakes I'm willing to go with a short ram intake. Any help would be appreciated

Sounds funny but make it yourself:
Go buy a straight 3" pvc pipe a a 45* silicone coupler and make your own. Paint the pvc with some dull black paint (cosmetic only). Talking like $15 total :thumb:

No it won't melt, and it will "perform" just as well as the ebay kit suggested earlier. Although I would invest in a nice filter like Bud said.

Either way: aluminum shiny piping or pvc or etc, spending the least amount of money would be my suggestion for a mod resulting in a minimal gain (if any).

Get an Intercooler and Pipes. Mount it, install the pipes and Place the Air filter of your choice on the other side. just use it as a cold air intake. Thats what im doing to with my 97 RS untill i get my turbo mounted.

Purpose of doing this is? :ohdamn: Haha interfooler FTL !

Like i said, Im doing this for the moment, untill i get a chance to bolt on my turbo next week. It works for me. IMO, kinda looks better than Home Depot stuff. Not saying its perfect, but it is functional, Still getting cooler air into the intake instead of sitting under the hood where the heat is nesting. yes he may gain 5 or 6 HP, but Fuel Economy will drop from the Heat.
Just my .02 :)

Hack the stock aircan, buy a drop-in K&N, find another good intake snorkel from a partout and be done. It literally won't get any better than that, even if you spend $200 on a 28" piece of shiny piping as you're limited on what you can use because of the mass airflow sensor location.

So you're telling the O.P. to spend $250 on an intercooler kit plus the time involved with the install so he can cool outside air with....outside air.

Now tell me why I shouldn't neg-rep this post. :|

You really have no idea, do you?

The only reason you'd want cooler air to enter the engine is to reduce the chance of detonation under extreme driving conditions. Reducing detonation allows more aggressive timing, and more aggressive timing allows more power to be made. It has NOTHING to do with fuel economy as a certain amount of heat is needed just so the fuel can burn. That in mind, it takes more fuel to burn cooler air.

Ever notice how fuel economy drops off rapidly in the winter? Yeah, that.

You're just adding a restriction in between the filter and throttle bottle reducing flow, which is MORE important on an N/A setup. The interfooler in your case can't cool the already ambient temperature air any lower: so um not functional. You're losing hp if anything. :notgood:

Thanks to Fast420a83 I bought the Weapon R Secret intake, instead of pulling another rubber air duct from another eclipse. I really wanted a cold air intake but was only able to find this intake that would fit my MAF and stock air filter can. I should be getting it today and putting it on either later today or Saturday. Thanks to everyone who replied and helped me out. I'll post an after pic to show what it looks like under the hood and if I have noticed performance increase.

Just got done putting the intake on and got few quick pics

I don't know how many intake pipes have another piece within it and this one does to supposedly create different air velocities, the $200 was for the intake pipe, new clamps, new foam weapon r air filter, ram air kit,.and other hose and things that come with the intake. For me not being mechanically inclined this went on easier for me then trying to create my own and messing up my daily driver, better safe then not have a car. It fixed the idling problems I was having due to the stock tubing starting to come apart in the middle.

So would a stock intake from someone's 1G non-turbo partout for +/- $20, leaving you $180 to spend on an air filter. :|

There is no restriction in the stock intake- the system restriction is the MAS. A 3" tube is going to flow as much as a non-turbo engine can demand whether it be made of metal or rubber.

I could have done that but I didn't want another stock 22year old rubber air duct tubing so I wanted to upgrade to a new metal one. I know the restriction comes from the MAF I didn't get the Weapon R intake because I thought it would increase my hp because that doesn't matter to me I just didn't want another 18+ year old rubber tube with precious waer and tear

You still need to hack up the aircan. The shiny pipe and filter aren't gonna do squat trying to suck in air through the opening of the stock aircan. You can get the ram air effect by cutting the front of the resonator (where the intercooler would be)

Not to sure where the resonator is or where an intercooler should be but I had my mechanic cuts some bolts on the stock air can and I had him move it a little more to the right so the intake would fit a little better, I have the ram air kit but don't want it on because I drive through dusty canyons and. Live pretty much in the desert of cali and don't want it ducking new thing up haha
