Hey there I have searched both on the forums and 0n the net to find a 1 piece F/G front clip for a 1G AWD DSM. Does anyone know where I might find one? Also sorry if this is in the wrong topic, but I was not sure where else to put it... Feel free to move it to the right place if needed....

thanks

Magnus used to have them for 2g's, you could give them a call and see what they can do for you. Other than that try to find a local or semi-local shop that does this kind of work.

Beh I couldnt find anything.

Yeah I looked about a month ago and didn't find anything either. People talk about it a lot but I never see anybody actually doing it.

So you are looking for a 1piece that looks like stock to run on the street, or is this a drag car? Iwas wondering a while back about this also just never looked into it. I wanted to do a F/G hood & hatch maybe this winter when i'm laid off & have enough time to take on a project like that.

this is for a race car... I have tried google, forum search on here, dsmtalk, and pretty much any and every knowledgebase I can find...

I guess the only option now is to get one made.?

Anyone have a guess as to how much it would be to have a custom, fiberglass bumper cover fabbed?

I love the Talon bumper cover, but I'd like to have one that had that "look" but which had a much larger opening for an FMIC. I've thought about cutting the hole out the way I want it and then fabricating an aluminum lip that would ring the opening (hide the cuts and help guide air into the FMIC), but that cover is HEAVY for what it does.

I am not sure how much it would be exactly, but I know it will be a hell of alot cheaper then gettin a whole fbrglss front end made...

what's wrong with a c/f hood and front fendes, and a f/g front bumper like a drift or something, I think that would loose alot of weight compared to stock ?

Show me a custom bumper cover that looks like a 2gb talon, c/f, f/g, or even plastic. The problem is that there are none.

I've seen two different ones built by shops exclusively for their drag car's, but at the moment I can't remember who the shops were.

If you really want one badly, contact Chris Nusbaum at Roo Man Fabrication, he's got one for his laser, and I think Kiggly has one on his laser as well. They may be able to tell you who built them for them.

the problem with fiberglass is that it is heavy.....just as heavy as steel. thats why you cant find many of them.

No it isn't. And you can use less of it and get the same strength/stiffness as steel, so it's less weight.

E-glass and S-glass density is about 2.5g/cc, and epoxy densities are around 1.2g/cc, so when you make a composite from the two, your density will be somewhere between 1.2 and 2.5g/cc. Steel is 7.8g/cc, so the same part made from steel would be 3x as heavy or more than a fiberglass composite part of the same dimensions.

Wow... that made no sense at all. WTF

I made the model for mine and had a shop pull the mold off it and make 1 part. I own the mold and can make more if anybody is ever interested. Mine is set up to fit 28 x 10.5's, so 26's would be a little roomy. I haven't even had a chance to take any decent pictures of the finished piece, but you can see the general shape in this picture. Mine was made a little heavy with some 1/4" foam core added in places, but still came in at 36lbs.

Dang.

You gonna cut out the front for your IC or are you scooping the air in underneath?

those are nice, are you guys running air-to-water coolers or methanol to keep the intake charges down since I dont see any intake ports for your air.

Here is a pic of our old 1pc front end. It was set up for 28x10x15 Goodyears.

How similar that looks to what I made is scary, considering I never saw that before now. How long ago did you make that? If it was done before last winter, I wish it was easier to find because I would have just bought it instead of spending all the time to make my own!

Hey, thanks for the info. I know that speedmachineperformance used to have them, but the manufacturer (MB products) quit making them. I've called all the authorized distributors and nobody had 'em. Guess I'll call magnus. Thanks again!

Sorry for the hijack, but that was helpful. :thumb:
