Looking at a DSM tommorow, things to look at.

It's a 1999 GS-T, 80k miles, 5 speed.

Picture look really clean, glossy paint, clean interior.

What are some specific things too look for? One would think at 80k miles that crankwalk is already showing signs, what are ways of testing for this. Anything else i should look for?

I am really excited and hope to become a proud DSM owner. All tips/suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Also i do plan to slowly but surely mod it.....I'd like to do an exhaust first, and if possible without making performance worse, a BOV. Then move on to do suspension and then finnaly larger turbo with supporting mods.....Pretty much a typical modded dsm

But this all comes from my slim budget, so surely. Any other mods you guys suggest? What about for exhaust, intake, bov, brand wise? I was thinking apexi n1 for exhaust(had that on my old car, liked it alot) and the greddy type RS bov or the hks ssqv, to the bov's half to be recirculated also?

I can't stress enough the fact that you have to take your time and look at everything. If you can, bring a compression tester with you. Check the oil. If the owner has reciepts of what he has done look at those. Drive it and shift through all the gears to make sure the tranny is good.Let it idle for a while and check the temperature gauge. There are so many factors when buying a car. But like I said previously be patient and look at everything.

Dont vent your BOV unless your using a maft... Venting comes with more problems then what most people are aware of. AS far as upgrades go I would say read a lot, research and come to your own conclusions.

You are so right! Looking for the right car and not getting caught up in one is what i believe in, i have been looking for around a month and sold my car two weeks ago so i am currently bumming rides, but its all worth it to be patient to find the right car.

It is not a private seller, the one im looking at tommorow is at a dealership......Definetly going to be driving it, checking temps, check the oil, overall take look.

I have already done the car fax and that checked out clean, has passed emissions everytime, has had routine service done, etc.

Also the price is amazing, only 5,900!

Also, is it true that the 99's had three piece crank bearings or something along those lines and were less prone to crank walk!

This is what i thought when it came to venting the bov to open air, which is why i asked.....id rather have the better performance from recirculating it than the PSHHHHHHHHHH sound, but i must admit, it is pretty cool Whats a MAFT? mass air flow ____?

Mass Air Flow Translator. It eliminates the stock maf and you use a 3 inch GM MAF. It lets you vent has more flow and lets you tune the injectors. Very basic tuning though.

Unfourtanetly when i got to the dealership the car had been sold a couple days ago, the search continues!
