Long Crank...sometimes starts

I recently bought a 92 dsm. Needed rod bearins so I put those in. All together now and took about 5 tries cranking it to start up. It ran fine once started. Turned off car to lower off jacks then wouldnt start again for about 20 more tries. finally got it to turn over. It ran then died itself.

Not sure what it could be.

Timing doesnt seem off.

It hasnt been sitting for a long time so gas is good.
Maybe a clogged fuel pump. Any ideas!!???

this happens to a lot of us a lot of the time (maf) it dose not always throw a code check it before replacing there a little pricey

Are you using an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator? Has it done this before, or is this the first time?

The car needed rod bearings, and you just replaced them? Sounds like youve got an engine rebuild in your future. As for fixing the starting issue, I'd check or replace wires, plugs, and fuel filter and see if its still there.

Doesnt not have a maf.

It has aftermarket fpr. And i dont think it has done it before. Just got it from somebody i know. He didnt say anything. But who knows.

What would the FPR have to do with no start?

Last post was a little confusing. Do you have a MAF or not, and is it plugged in?? If you don't, that's your problem.

If fpr isn't keeping the fuel pressure it won't start. I believe it's suppose to be 42 psi.

Also check the Coolant temp sensor. The one for the ecu. My talon did that when i got it. Took forever to start cold and wouldnt start when it was warm.

Agreed. Check the maf make sure it's there and plugged in. For the fuel pressure it should be at 37psi for a M/T and for the A/T and N/T it should be at 43 psi.
