Little white smoke at idle after rebuild normal?

I just did a complete rebuild,brand new internals, 02 housing downpipe,exhaust etc you name it. I have a little bit of white smoke puffing at idle,is this because everything is new? my first thought was (oh no) head gasket not sealing...so I shut if off for now. any input is great.

What type of Head Gasket? Some require it to get up to normal operating temps..

I used a cometic,it I let it warm up to operating temp. I wonder if you can put them on upside down. I noticed It sticks out on sone side on the front of the block.

Did you get your block resurfaced? Do a leak down test.

Often when you replace the headgasket you'll have coolant still in the cylinders that needs to burn off. It could take several minutes of running and possibly even driving it for a while to burn everything off to the point that you dont see white smoke. If its still smoking after a day or two of driving then I would be concerned.

Leak down test....I will keep that in mind. The block was resurfaced the head was also fresh. I did notice some white powdery substance in my exhaust from being brand new I wonder if its just that burning off. I have yet to drive it but its not belching white smoke just a tiny bit.

How long did you let the car run? Did you drive it at all and how hard?

I havent even driven it a mile yet. I just let it warm up to operating temp and then some,looked at the tailpipe and noticed a little bit of white smoke coming out, so I shut if off.

A little smoke after a rebuild is normal. Don't sweat it, drive her a couple of miles and do some engine break in and it should disappear.

Ok thankyou, this is my first rebuild,and Ive had tons of set backs,and I have made my share of mistakes,I just dont want this to be another one. I just saw the white puffs and got scared.

I also noticed I had to add coolant after,but im pretty sure thats from it circulating through the head and block for the first time?

Lots of times after a rebuild it will give a touch of smoke/odor while burning off the assembly lube.

Ok I did pack the oil pump FULL of assembly lube,and I put alot of lube on the cam journals just because.
