We had a guy here in town running a slow boy racing gt 10 i believe and he couldnt make power no matter what he did. this guy had the works and could easily run a very low 12 possibly a mid to high 11. we did a compression check and he had like 125 across the board.

That makes a lot of sense then regarding Mark's low compression numbers. I also know that when compression numbers are below service limit, you can likely run a bunch of boost on pump and not trigger knock. That being the case, the low timing moderate A/F equation may work the best, especially on pump gas when the motor's rebuilt.

Let us know when she's rebuilt and tuned Mark!

Andy I bought a junk '91 AWD last year and had the motor pulled and I tore it down over the winter. Took the block and crank to the machine shop earlier this week. The block came back .001" over! The hone should not add more than .0005" so the WISECO's I want at 9:1 should be a go!
I pray the crank just needs a polish. I am looking for a July R&R of the engines. The '93 runs excellent too! (guess I'll sell that) I will also have some mild head work done. I will start a thread and update as the build takes place. Man am I glad I bought that '91 !!!!! Thanks, guys-Mark

Cams generally will drop compression. I went from 150 across to 125 across when I dropped my FP2's in, and believe me, everything is spot on.

Search a bit, and you'll find other member's discussions about dropped compression with cams.

Edit : my numbers were on a cold motor, by the way.

quick q. im running a 60-1 also. i have a egt, safc, maft, wideband and pocket logger for tuning. Right now i have a chip compensating for 780s. my egts go no higher than 600*C im pretty sure im rich as hell. My wideband tells me also. I however knock sometimes. About 12 coutns of knock at the high end at about 13-14 psi. Im trying to bosot max on pump gas. Anyone have any ideas from where to start? let me know thanks

What kind of A/F is your wideband showing you? If you're only running 13-14 psi and have a chip compensating for the 780's you're likely rich enough to trigger rich knock. Have you tried increasing the boost and seeing what happens to knock? Also, what kind of timing are you getting on a WOT 3rd gear pull?

That should be a start!

well i got a buschur stage 3. still not pulling like it should!!! i am thinkig my resonator is the issue. 60-1 is out for repair. will try no res. mark

comp wheel touching housing abit. under warranty. resonator may have to go!!!!

Turbine wheel was torn up. AGP said something passed through it! Ben thought the new motor had caused the damage. I did not think that as it ran fine the day I removed the turbo for repair except for the boost issue. I did a cold compression test-189# in alll 4 cylinders so it seems the motor is fine. I believe something broke loose from my header so I will be pulling that and checking it out. I will also replace the resonator with a Walker Dynomax bullet muffler to use as a resonator. 3" all the way through, perforated instead of louvered. Hoping the new turbo wakes the motor up! Will report asap. Mark
