Ok...So I am replacing just about everything in and on this car to make it back to stock and running right before I do any modifications to it. I tore the trans off today to replace the clutch, and once inside, I found one of the owners installed a 6 puck race clutch and ACT lightweight flywheel. I already have a new OE clutch to put in it, can I resurface the Lightweight flywheel and mate it to the OE clutch? I just spent a ton of cash bringing it back up to running decent, and don't have enough for a performance clutch yet. I just want to put it back together and drive the dang thing.

Simple answer, yes you can use a stock clutch (pressure disc and pressure plate) with a lightened flywheel.

Make sure you get the flywheel resurfaced, but you know that.

there are really no differneces in flywheel beisde what they are made of. Aluminum, chomoly, steel. I went from a stock flywheel 19 lbs to a Fidanza 8lbs, the 11lbs made a huge difference, definitely feel the difference in throttle response.

Ok, my only worry was the increased RPM of the assembly. Didn't know if a OE clutch could grab it as well. On Monday I will have a specialty shop resurface it and shim it appropriately.

I am including pictures of what the previous owner had, and what I'll end up putting in it.

Do ACT flywheels not have detachable friction surfaces like fidanzas?

Might wanna get a quote on that flywheel before you resurface it, it costs an arm and a leg, all the legit shops in my area want more than a new Fidanza flywheel to resurface it.

Really? I was told the shop here only charged $25 to surface and shim... They were closed today by the time I saw the damages...

I also noticed, the transmission gasket? is cracked by a small bolt by the starter. It looks like its been that way for a long time, no signs of anything even brushing against it and the trans itself locks it into place, should it be replaced? I'm thinking about just putting it back together anyway, hasn't been an issue yet, and its a steel gasket so its not going to move...

Its not a gasket, its a starter plate. It lines up the starter in the transmission.

I am nearly 100% sure that they thing you have a steal flywheel with no steps. The shops around here will surface those for anywhere between 8$ and 20$.

I had them look at my flywheel and they quoted 200$+ to step it and resurface it.

How does it line up the starter? Wouldn't the bolts that hold it in place pretty much line it up? Is it necessary to have it in there, and if so, should it be replaced since it isnt touching anything?
