I have a 97' eclipse spyder and the engine does this annoying tick when its turned on. Is that the lifters?? and if so can anyone recommend a good replacement brand? any help would be great :dsm: :thumbdown

You can remove them and clean them first, thats what I did and they don't make a sound now.
Or you can buy the new revised lifters from SlowBoy.

ok so how would i clean them? just use some compressed air and blow them out i mean it couldnt hurt right?? worst comes to worst i just buy new ones so... tell me what you guys think and how i should go about doing it correctly? -once again thanks for the help :dsm:

Most important thing to remember when cleaning the lifters is.....do not put them back in primed ....you must empty them and be sure that you can push the top in on them with your finger. That means it is empty of oil.

if its bothering you, you can mask it buy using some of that goop stuff. Its call like SD2 or something, but it works. I work at Wal-Mart, woo hoo!, a car came back back with no oil in the case or filter. We put a new plug and oil and started it. It sounded like absolute crap. So we drained some oil and used some of that goop stuff and it made the sound go away. I was blown away, but it didnt fix the problem, it only masked it, and honestly it sounded like a new motor. If you have lifter tick, it might be an indication that your head isnt going to last much longer. Remember the stuff is real thick and you wont be able so slosh it around in the quart it comes in.

i have a 1997 but it still ticks even after the car is warmed up (when its hella cold out), should it still do that with the 'revised' lifters?

My car will tick when the motor is cold, then it will just stop all of the sudden. I know its the lifters, but i thought that the revised lifters weren't supposed to do that. Maybe its just a 97 talon thing... haha
