I am having trouble trying to find out what could be leaking transmission fluid in between my transmission and transfer case. I already replaced the seal on the transfer case and soon found out that I lost nearly all my fluid out of the transmission. I am thinking that it is leaking through the opposite end of the spline that goes into the transfer case. Also trying to find out what I have to do to replace that seal. Thank you for all the help!

Make sure it's not leaking above that and just dripping at that location

Is it possible to do with the transmission in the car? Or is it better to just take out the whole transmission. I thought it would be called intermediate shaft seal. Thank you very much.

Yes. You can pull the rear cover off the trans, pop the viscous coupler off and push the intermediate shaft out and change the seal real quick. it'll be a days work if you've never done it before...but if you already know what you're doing it'd be an hour job.

an oil seal is an oil seal. I could understand a timing belt or oil pump being oem....but a ####ing oil seal...seriously?

Yes seriously. i cant tell you how many times I've tried to do something with a Napa or other part only to end up ordering OEM, Take a valve cover gasket for example, crap quality, it works but its crap and leaks in a shorter amount of time then OEM at least in my exierpence, thermostat gasket, same thing. only the OEM gasket fit the OEM thermostat. The napa one was loose. etc etc... So yes seriously. I'd rather buy it once and be done with it. Thats just me though, I don't care if someone else has to do it twice.

May as well do all of the seals at once. If one is gone usually the others are not far behind. Trouble being you need to put the input shaft seal in from the inside which would show a leak in the bell housing/transfer case side. Start simple/cheap and pray or do it right and not worry!

Thank you for all this information. I will look into replacing all the seals that has to do with the shaft. This will be my first time doing transmission work. It couldn't possibly be that difficult can it?

It is really easy to to complete. I did this just a week ago. I numbered the heads on the end case of the trans before removal to make a simple installation. Also, be very careful not to lose the steel ball that holds the output shaft in place. It will just fall out. I finished this job in a little over an hour.

Ok, Thank you
