hi all,

is it possible to put an lancer evo engine in your eclipse. i have a eclipse 2G with a 4G63T 2.0l 16V turbo in my car. my engine now is broke (the bearings of the balance shaft are broke). the engine that now is in my car is the 2nd one, the first engine his crackshaft bearings where broke. now i'm searching a 3th engine. after searching the internet i have read that they put lancer evo engines in an eclipse but from witch type of evo they take the the evo VIII or an other one. does someone know why the bearings of the shafts broke because i don't want to buy every month a new engine because the problems with my previous engines happend on 2 month's. if someone know an other solution it would be greatfull

here you see can read the story of my car:
at october 2008 i bought me an eclipse 2G. Now we are august 2008 and i have driven my car for a max of 3 months for the rest of the time my car was standing there because the engine is/was broke. Now i gonna tell the story: i bought my car and went home. After 6 days of drove it the engine broke. what was the problem: i heard somthing knocking. after asking around they told me it was the crackshaft, its bearing turned a quarter. because of that the crackshaft had a litle space from a few millimeters and thats why he was knocking. My car was repaired at the end of february. i drove it for around 2 months and guess what: the engine knock again. what was the problem now: the same as what i had last time but now it was the bearing of the balance shaft. now at this moment the engine is still broke (havent repaired it because in belgium its hard to find an engine like the). My question is does he gonna break again because i know a friend who had a landrover freelander, he told me that the type of car had a disease with its engines. does the eclipse also has that problem that the engine always damages because i have found a new engine but if the engine damages again i don't gonna spend my money on it (if u understand what i mean)

thx

Anything is possible with the right $$ ;)...

Just ask yourself if the fabrication price is really worth it...

The EVO engine your talking about are the earlier EVO's like EVO III...

In my honest opinion, why not just have one of your motors rebuild instead of spending money on used engines? It would be cheaper not to mention you wont be risking the damage of used parts with mileage

If theres anything I learned since joining the forums, its that searches really do go a long way. People try these swaps, but it is difficult (and expensive as DSM_PWR is implying) because of the way the engine is laid out.

The only real disease with the engines is crankwalk, which many of the more experienced members will tell you that it is rare. If you really want to be safe go with a 6 bolt engine out of a 1g.

Pull the balance shafts?? Run a couple of oil changes, see if you can get most of the oil out of the engine.

If it's just balance shaft bearings, I'd try it before trying an extreme swap like that.

You can swap one of the 4g63t engines out of the newer eclipses into a N/T 2g with the 420a. But take a look at the engine bays, the evo has the engine facing the other way compared to our 4g63t dsms. The older evos (I-III) have the same engine as us so there's no gain in the swap there.

hi all,

thx for the answers. the engine i now have isn't repaird sinds i got him (he's stil broke in the car, i din't drive him sinds the engine is broke) i didn't replaced the bearings yet because i first looking for answers whats the best i can do now.
-I don't know what a crankwalk is (a litle bit more explenation would be great).
-If i remove the balance shafts what hapens with the timing belt (he wil be to long) and if i
remove the do i need to rebalance the crank shaft with the camshafts or isn't that
necessary because the engine will be out of balance (i think) and what happens with the
space where the shafts have been. where can i find an elemination kit for it. if i remove
the shafts will it reduce my hp.
-if i do a engine rebuild what parts i all need or can it be only done at a garage. will it help
if a do a revision with my engine.

what would be the best solution (and the cheapest)

what u mean with pull the balance shafts and what u mean with an extreme swap

woo state college! sorry knochgoon24, just wondering what you meant by swapping one of the 4g63t engines out of the newer eclipses and putting it in a 2gnt? i didnt really understand what you were saying here

Meerchaut - if you continue having problems with your 3rd engine, one popular route is to do a 6 bolt swap.

I removed my balance shafts when I rebuilt my head, couldn't tell any difference except the car becomes more reliable.

Just buy a 6 bolt motor and be done with it, you won't regret it. Also, using the search button helps alot so then you don't have to ask questions that have already been answered in other threads. Have fun.
