So my driver side front strut is blown and I'm going to be replacing all for corners cause it's just about that time. I"ve been riding with B&G springs for about 8 months on the stock shocks. Anybody have any horrible experience with the GR2? I know there are a lot better ones out there, and eventually I'll get a higher end set, but for now I'm going to go with the GR2s. Anybody really really protest to that and think that something else (such as AGX) should be the upgrade? Thanks

Ben

I will starting some work on my suspension in the near future and my research has shown that better do it now than later. Its pointless if you are going to spend the money on the gr2s, if you are just going to get the agxs later. Get the agx now and save yourself the time and money and pain of suspension work. I will be getting the gr2 because I dont really need the performance of the agx, and I plan to run on stock springs for a while, or until I can check mine out and see if I need new ones. I will probably go with the prokit and the gr2s if I need the whole setup.

Just think about what you will be using the car for. If its autocross, then definetly get the agx. If its daily driving with good handling, gr2s would do you fine.

GR-2 are basically a stock replacement...Anything more of a drop than the Pro-kit springs provide will cause the shocks to bottom out, and eventually blow as well.(I was thinking about getting them before;) ) Now I'm going with an Eibach Sportlines and Tokico blues setup:thumb:

Heh I got enough trouble getting into my driveway as it is with my stock springs, if I had sportlines I would have to start parking in the street. I wish I had enough money for an air suspension, then go from 1" street clearance to a 4" raise just to park :p

i have them with my goldlines and they are only a stock replacement thats it no real difference just buy the good ones now. i wouldnt re-spend the money on the gr2.

My car is staggered with stock shocks up front, and a GR-2 and Monroe on the back. Haven't swapped them out yet... don't ask.
Anway, my GR-2 is completely blown out. It's all spring on that one corner, so I wouldn't recommend them, but thats just me. (Granted I don't know how long it has been there, or the circumstances surrounding it, since it came like that when I bought it.)

Like was stated earlier, the GR2 is basically a stock replacement. They are only 10% stiffer than stock. On top of that, they cost the same as the stock monroe's at your local auto zone. Not worth it in my opinion. Just drop the extra couple hundred and go for the AGX's.

AGX's do not have a good reputation on 2g's.

In what way? Do you have any proof of this? My buddy has a 95 TSI with AGX's and they haven't given him any problems at all. And, if I'm not mistaken, most of the 2g guys on the boards here are using AGX's. That's what i've come across while reading most of the strut question threads.

-Taken from RRE's web site: " We don't recommend the AGXs for the 2G Eclipse, the 2G front shock body length is too long for car that are lowered at all. ".

-you should always replace shocks/struts in pairs (ie. both fronts or both rears)

The car came with that janky set-up. I plan on replacing them all with Illuminas, just waiting for the $ to come in. Hopefully not too much longer.

^That and the numerous threads on them here. It seems as though they work great for 1G's though. ;)

AGXs for 2Gs have been shortened to be about the same length as stock. (Not that I would not suggest them.) That RRE doesn't always update their website should be taken as a good sign. They have far better things to do.
