Duncan,
So I've been checking out getting some KYB AGXs for my 92 Laser AWD and they're a decent price compared to what the local parts shop wants for them. $500 gets them to my door from the US. The parts store wants $250 a pop for the fronts, so I didnt even bother to ask about the rears.

Anyway...

I don't want to drop my ride height at all. I'm pretty darn happy with the way it is right now. I have the GR2s in the front and really shitty stock ones that are due in the back.

Question is: Should I use the stock springs with the AGXs? I've read someone didn't mind it being a bit stiff, but I wanted to hear some more about this? If you think I shouldn't, what would you recommend, and why? Like I said, I don't want to drop the height, so nothing super super fancy, but something decent.

Mine are on stock springs with the agx's on all 4 corners. It's pretty smooth going down i-70 at 80+ mph with the settings all on 1. I got mine on ebay from jdmwerks for like $330 shipped or so. I have to send one of my rears back since it blew, but the agx's carry a lifetime warranty UNLESS you lower the car more than I think 1.5".

Shipping across the border can cost alot of money, I know this may be off topic, but how close to the border is Duncan?

Kind of close, you can take the ferry from Port Angeles to Sidney, and Sidney is about 1hr away. I'm not too worried about the border fees though. $500 with UPS or Fedex would come to about $100-$125 in brokerage fees.

Yeah I'm not going to be lowering my car at all so I think I'll be fine with that. Settings on 1, being 1 the softest and I guess 8 the hardest? And yeah I'm looking at getting them off the same seller.. I've been looking at ebay for MONTHS.. literally MONTHS thinking about it.

Here's the link for the shocks on ebay

And OH! I was off by about $100US on that price. Still a damn good deal for brand new with lifetime warranty.

I've got AGX's all the way around on my 90 AWD and I'm still on stock springs. I love the ride. Specially with winter coming up. I'd recommend it!

Good enough. I've ordered my shocks! I'm looking forward to getting them and putting them in. Can't wait :thumb:

Now the next question is.. At what setting would you recommend riding them? What did you set your shocks to?

Yea 1 is soft and 8 is the hardest setting with those. My one shock was completely blown. I took it off today, it wont even rebound.

That's for the rear. The fronts are only 4 way adjustable (1 - 4) at the top of the strut tower. The rears are 8 way adjustable via the side of the strut (easily accessible by jacking the car up or reaching through the spokes, if you have aftermarket wheels). I had a 2g GS that I had AGX's on all four's with cut springs (~ 1.5" drop) and that thing rode awesome! What I wouldn't give to have that suspension back right now.

I thought fee's were only paid on bought merchandise . I sold some BC272 to a guy in Canada . I sent them to him as a gift . He told me it would save him fees that way .

Right now I've got them set to 1 in the front and the rear. The roads are under construction pretty much everywhere here in Calgary and there is a lots of drops and half finished roads. I think they ride about 30% stiffer than stock and quite comfortable on the highway. I had the AGX's with Eibach Sportline and my wipers would turn on when I'd hit a bump-the stock springs are much more comfortable for daily driving.

UPS/Fedex are bitches for sending stuff across the border. When I ordered rims for my buddy's 91 TSi.. Fedex charged me $115 for border fees or something like that.

But I figured that paying that much in border fees would still be worth it. And yeah I just bought them today. Should be here next week! Wooo

Hey projekz, how much did it end up costing you in border fees?

My KYB's are great. They are set up very stiff, for autocross, and the occational fun street cornering. I also have eibach springs for a lower ride height. They are hard on some bad streets, passengers usually complain, but im an enthusiest and I dont care much. I also have both upper strut tower bars, and I can weave in and out of the lines on a highway at 60-65 MPH. These are very responsive suspension upgrades for the price.

My buddy had upper struts in his 91.. he said it didn't make much of a difference with both on, but when he took the front out, he liked how the back end would kick out a bit going hard around a corner?

What's body roll like with your shock+struts combo? my body roll right now is gah.. like riding a dingy:|

Im in the same boat as the OP. Im hopefully going to be getting some AGX's but have stock springs on the car with some need-to-be-replaced GR-2's and am worried that maybe the springs have gotten old over the past 18 years therefore changing or weakening the spring rate. But as some others have said, it seems to be ok and with great ride quality. Thanks.

I'm pretty happy with them overall though. You can tell theyre on the car driving around town though, little stiffer than stock. I'm looking forward to putting on my drag radials and setting the rear to 8, see what theyre all about.

I got some Tein S-Tech springs sitting in a box waiting to be installed but I'll probably put them on after the winter. The mix of AGX's and stock springs is perfect in my opinion for daily driving. Although I like the look of the car when it's dropped a bit.

I agree. I want to eventually put on s-techs but the stockers should do for the meantime.

Tim: Did you ever send that shock back? How's that guy for dealing with when it comes to broken stuff?

All others: What's the cornering like with stock springs and the agxs? Like body roll and that? Car dancing without body roll is fun :thumb:

BTW my shocks are in Washington state. Should be here before the weekend so I'll put them in probably sat/sun! Woohooo

:thumb:Off the topic, but I would really enjoy getting some people to drive up to canada, and going on the worlds roughest highway:thumb: or maybe just finding some amazing dirt/gravel roads, where I can drive really fast. Just a thought.

Come to BC!!! There are some wicked mountain roads. My favourite - and one that I haven't driven yet because I'm waiting for those blasted agxs - is from Pemberton to Lilooet

Check out the terrain map

Up and down.. it's a nice cruise.
