Kumho V710 recall

Just an FYI for folks who might have gone out and bought these: Kumho has voluntarily recalled their V710s. More details:

It sounds like they're planning on re-releasing it in a couple of months with a redesign.

On another note, a rumor is floating around on a local list that these tires were going to be deemed illegal for street tire SCCA classes anyway, since SCCA's independent testing showed them not meeting DOT requirements...anyone know if there's any truth to that?

SCCA has suspended eligibility of the V710 for use in street-tire classes:

Not too surprising, but there you go. Folks are already talking on the previously-mentioned local list about a run on Hoosiers due to increased demand now.

Just to be clear....

Most people use the phrase "street-tire class" to refer to Street Touring, where 710s were always banned. What the SCCA has done is to ban 710s from Stock, Street Prepared, and Street Modified. It is unclear whether this ban carries over to Prepared and Modified, and this is being looked into right now.
