As the topic reads, I am pretty upset. My buddy and I began replacing the springs on my Yellows with the ProKit springs because I was having problems with my 19in wheels rubbing. Let me begin by saying that my buddy is no scrub. He's a professional mechanic who takes this crap apart all the time... we would still be working on it but he just got married and is leaving on his honeymoon. (Yea, he's a good buddy to help me the day after his wedding)

ANYHOW- My problem:

We got them all put back together and I pulled out of the drive to test her out and I heard a thud, then another, then thud thud... Pulled over, checked... here the entire strut adjustment bolt was slamming up against my hood. The back was doing the same thing. It was like we had completely forgot something extremely important. Of course I was pissed about my hood being destroyed but now, after trying for another couple hours to fix it, I am just confused.

I plan to go over there tomorrow to take pictures so I can show you all what is going on but basically, I cannot see how we are doing anything wrong. Obviously we are, that is why I am asking for YOUR help. On top we have the rubber bushing and a washer and then the bolts. Below, there's the plastic/metal black piece. It's late, my mind has gone blank... I hope you know what I mean...

Anyhow, if you have no idea what I mean, I will be posting pictures here tomorrow. Either way, I appreciate your help in advance.

My cousin did the same thing on his 2g. This was a few years ago but I vaguely recall him leaving out some washers or something similar. That allowed the strut top to move freely and they hit the hood.

Pictures would defently help. I'll take a look at the shop manuel when I get home but sounds like you forgot a washer or the lower busing under the top mounting plate. Either that or the stops on the shock piston are to small? (which seems unlikely, unless you somehow got the wrong shocks)

The "pistion" that runs throuogh out the whole set up has some sort of stop on it wether it be built on, or a washer that needs slid over it. The point of that is...when you hit a bump and your car comes down, the "Hat" thats sits atop the assembly will catch that washer it will land and rest there. Thats what transfers the compression to the shock. Not having it in there will allow for the pistion to slip through the "hat" and come up through the hood.

Because I made my coilover kit I used old lug nuts from anb AMG.

Get what went wrong ? I can get some pictures if you would like. -Matt

I am going to work on it more tonight. I am going to take it all out and get some pictures. I appreciate the help. I will check for that washer but as far as I know, we put it back exactly like it was, just with a new spring.

Hopefully I get lucky tonight :thumb:

tell me how the koni yellow and eibachs go. i think i want to get that or the tokico illumina shock/spring combo. let me know please

When I got my KYB's and Pro kit, and my whole suspension setup, it was a real pain in the A$$, but yeah, if you do forget the bushings, you will do what you just did recently. I got the prothane bushings and the eibach bump stops on mine, and if you forget the mounts washers, yeah, bam!!! To the moon mary!!! Double check everything, backtrack, and you will see.... trust me, I almost did the same mistake....
