Well, you cant say the future of dsm's is falling in a downward spiral, since there is enough dsm guys to keep the good legacy to continue, this goes for alot of other cars, like 240sx's, you got your rice 240's then you have your strictly drifting/racing 240's, just like which in our case atleast there isnt many "rice" turbo dsm's out there. Be glad our cars are known for being really unreliable and super complicated to work on, or else we would have alot more idiots driving turbo dsm's around turning another import into an autozone special. But, this is where the whole ebay thing comes in with some of thier cheap, but yet junky parts. I still have confidence dsm's will over come this, since 90% of the little punks still wont be able to debug a dsm's most confusing problems. Thats why tuners is a family, and all known and senior members have to stick together and keep any ricey stuff from happening.

This is why they dont bother with some of the high technical cars, they go straight to honda, cause they are the most easy, reliable car to work on.

Yes, unfotunately it is. I can already see the change in the dsm community happening(hopefully it won't or at least won't be so bad as my example), I mean really I should have seen it all along. The same thing that happened in the honda world is going to happen here. The cars are starting to get cheap(not that they were not all along), and you are going to have two groups of dsmers the ones that buy the name brand stuff and the ones that buy the ebay stuff. Then the two groups are going to argue which is better. And there is going to be a huge divide in the community. Deffinately a sad beggining indeed.
Thankfully there is a very strong core group of hardcore dsmers like NABR and other people who will continue to support vendor and try to support the DSM heritage.

^^^I hope so, however if nabr does not allow new people to their site regularly how the hell are they really going to help. It seems to have not mattered what you put in their "application" when they were doing "open" registration you could never get on. Or at least I couldn't and its not like I was typing LiKE tHIs yO!!!

Yeah I did the same. I even included my phone number that I would not normally give out. Eitherway I am happy with what I have and don't NEED a membership there. If I get on cool but otherwise I guess I will just take time and learn on my own.

There are still a ton of knowledgable members on other forums. This one has many many people. The link forums, aem forums, etc...so hopefully all is not lost.

in a couple years, you could probably build a 12 second dsm for under 1k... thats kinda sad. (and yes, I understand that some people may have done it, but personally, I got my car for 2200, and Im saying anyone who wants to could find a running awd dsm for a couple hundred and slap on a few parts to put them at the 1k mark and run 12's.)

that will be a very cool day, also, dsm "reliability" will be at an all time low. I wonder why......

DAMN GOOD POINT!!!

Only in that, said 1G, which might have stood a chance in the hands of a legitimate tuner, will only make a handful of 12 second passes before giving up the ghost. I don't mind that slack-ass enthusiasts have their dreams dashed due to their own mypoia, so much as I feel saddened to hear of another DSM being parted out or junked as a result.

Personally, I have always stood by telling DSMers to do their research into what parts they need in legitimate forums with exeperienced members like here and 2GNT. Once they know what they need, they should first visit the sites of vendors and sponsors to both ensure they get the best service, price and quality. Only when what you need is not available from a trusted DSM vendor should you bother with searching eBay.

Even so, it goes without saying - If it's important, it's worth paying for. I tell the kids looking to get into modding their 2GNTs to go ahead and buy that eBay short ram intake, the used header or GST catback, because those mods, together, don't provide a signifigant enough gain to be worth paying for name brand (Name brand pipe? Yeah. Whatever.) and pose no danger to the car. They're not important mods, so there's no need to invest a grand into name brand pipe for less than 10whp. Their value as a learning experience and stepping stone into working on their DSM is most important.

As for "Go fast with class," that is something I feel is very important to this community. Like it or not, "Fast" is relative. "Class" is not. A modified 2GNT is "fast," even if only faster than a handful of other cars. To talk shit with comments like, "Why do these retards bother with the N/Ts?" Demonstrates a complete lack of class. Chances are, those "retards" drove their DSMs from farther away than the rock from under which you came and are more interested in being a part of the DSM community than showing up everyone in town with $30,000 or more worth of subsidized parts under the skin of their purpose-built race car.

To the guys who will always think 2GNTs are pointless, I got no beef with you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if we're going to turn the trend from idiots building ghetto-ass eBay DSMs, I think we need to put the petty agrument behind us and see to it that those DSMers who have the experience and technical know-how share their skills and professionalism with the new guys in an effort to raise the bar platform-wide.

Screw a bunch of bootleg car parts on DSMs. Those of us who know better owe it to the community, as a whole, to make being a legitimate tuner "cool" so that others will follow.

Is it me or has dr1655 been responding to everything like he is in a NT vs. Turbo thread?
