Alright, I'm changing my knock sensor and I can't see ANYTHING. I can't see where it's at BUT I think I felt it. Wait, I KNOW I felt it. Stuck my hand under the intake manifold, right around the middle and voila I felt the sensor with a wire coming out of it. I traced the wire toward the firewall, it's a pretty short wire...and it's plugged in at the back of the intake manifold. This is the knock sensor correct?

Also, I felt a bracket of some sort while trying to find the knock sensor. It seems kind of thin, it runs from the underside of the intake manifold to the block. Is this the bracket everyone talks about that needs to be removed?

Does it HAVE to be removed or can it stay on and the knock sensor come out? And what is the torque spec for a 1g turbo sensor? I can't seem to find the answer. One other thing, what size wrench is needed to take this bad boy out?

I already did a battery relocation to the trunk so I have no battery or associated brackets. Charcoal canister is gone. EGR has been removed for a long time. FIAV blockoff. I have a lot of room on the passengers side...would this be the best place to tackle the knock sensor from? Because I can't see jack from either side I try to look from.

Its in the back of the block under the intake manifold with a wire correct and u can get at it from under the car or from where a batery use to be don't matter but you don't have to remove the brace for the intake manifold that u are talking about just use a open faced wrench and should come out like cake

I'm AWD, I'm not getting under the car, taking the transfer case out just to get the knock sensor out. I'm pretty sure I found the right sensor, it's just that I can't see what the hell I'm doing. How many bolts hold the bracket on, and does it need to be reinstalled afterwards? Also, how much torque is needed to put the sensor in? I have read 7ft/lb for N/T and 15ft/lb for 2g but nothing for 1g turbo.

Dude I am all wheel too listen to me u don't take the bracket off its the support for the intake manifold and just feel the wrench on to the sensor and crank it loose and u can get it out with ## hand the rest of the way and as far as the tourqh spec ill look in my book and post in a few mins and you can get to it from either side of the intake but if the battery is out of the way go from there

14 to 18 is the tourqh specs for the knock sensor and don't remove the bracket but if u want to there are 2 bolts for the top of the bracket to the intake and 1 or 2 to the block on the bottom of the bracket and they are 14mm size bolts hope that helps

Anyone knows whats the thread? The hole is rusty, I want to retap it before I install it.

You can try to just put some wd40 on the threads of the knock sensor and should clean up all the rust in the treads of the block try that before u tap the block u may mess the block up by tapping it if it don't go in straight and will be a big headache

I know it will be a nightmare installing it since I dont want to unbolt the IM, just changed the gasket, and I dont want to snap it or something. i'd rather have the threads cleaned and then install it

I'm telling u coat the knock sensor with wd-40 it will clean the threads in the block have u ever put that stuuf on rusted things it cleans and lubes at the same time even with corosion dosnt matter just try it bet u it works better than running a tap in the back of the block and u don't have to take anything off

Yea I didnt think I should take the bracket off but from everything I've read it said to take it off. What size wrench is used to get the sensor off?

So I traced the knock sensor wire from the back of the manifold to the block. Looked in through the passengers side with a flashlight (was getting dark by this time) and saw the sensor. I pulled it out and I was shocked at what I found...more like in complete denial. I have no way of telling how much torque I applied, since I have no way of getting a torque wrench in. I used the wrench and maybe tightened it 1/8th of a turn or something, after it was finger tight.

Well, anyways...enjoy looking at what I found!
