OK so i just got done doing a balance shaft elimination and replacing all the bottom end gaskets and seals and timing belt and a new knock sensor. well at idol my logger is saying that i am getting 42 counts of knock and the car will run like crap at idol because of the ignition being retarded. i don't understand what would cause this all the bearings are fine and i cannot hear any type for knocking from the engine. if i unplug the sensor it runs beautifully and strong much better than before the small over haul. what could be the cause of this? a bad knock sensor? right before i did the over haul it was reading crazy knock also. that is why i did the balance shaft elimination. so it may be something with the computer any and all advice will be much appreciated thank you.

Did the knock sensor have any black goo coming out of it. That goo is supposed to help isolate the pickup on the sensor so normal mechanical noises don't trigger it. If you can get a second knock sensor, see if that cures the problem.

Do you have ticking lifters? If the tick is loud enough, it can be picked up by the sensor.

i believe i have a few lifters ticking. the knock sensor is brand new though do you think it might just be a bad sensor or what because at idle its reading 41-42 counts. im thinking of taking it back and having it replaced. i just threw the old one away last week becausei thought i didnt need it any more now im regretting it.

I'm also having problems with the fuel on a cold start that i posted in a different post. This is puzzling me the tick never sent the old sensor wacky and that one was all oozed out. why would it be doing it now its between 40-43 counts constantly but when i drive it with the sensor plugged in it doesn't do to much to the timing but it idols 3-400 rpm lower and trys to stall out.

come on guys i really need some help i know som eone has to know something as to the cause of this. btw i also think that one or more of my spark plugs is fouled because it has been missing somewhat.
