Yet another neat feature made possible by rom tuning. I found the code in an older post on the DSM-ECU list and decided to try it out. After spending way too long figuring out that the purge solenoid works off a fixed +12v and it's the ground that is switched, my friend and I mounted a buzzer alarm in the cabin and wired it to the purge solenoid output on the firewall.
Now every time I hit 10 knock or more, a buzzer beeps at me and I let off. My initial test chip that forced a 15 knock count made the alarm sound, so I put my normal chip in and pumped the boost a few pounds over what it's tuned for. I did a pull and one or two seconds into fifth gear the buzzer started going off so I let off. No more trying to watch the logger at the track or during those high speed test runs out in the boonies.
I'm thinking of wiring a warning LED into the output too just to cover my bases if I have the stereo cranked up or I go temporarily deaf. However, you just can't beat an audible warning that you don't have to look away from the road for while WOT at high speed.
