key broke inside the ignition

since i cannot turn the ignition to ACC is there another way of doing it besides getting a locksmith?? will jamming a flat head into the tumbler work??

thats a tough one, i would try and put in whats left of the key and turn it. But my guess is you already tried that right. Another option would be getting the same key and tumbler from the dealer.

it might, but you defiantly need to get to a junkyard for a new key and tumbler.

Take a very small dab of crazy glue and apply to the piece of the key that is not in the ignition. Connect it to the piece that is stuck. Allow to dry and carefully pull the broken piece out. Once out, separate the two pieces, glue them together again, this time more accurately and then go get a spare key made. This has worked for me once but I may have just gotten lucky. F that ! ! dude, back yard mechanics cut and hack and tuners finess... remember that. take it apart and replace it or repair it on the work bench out of the car. take all of the plastic trim off around the key hole and steering colum. now you see how the key tumbaler asembally attatches to the sterring colum. you cant "unscrew" or "unbolt" it easily because of the two "anti-tamper" bolts thats a DOT standard and all cars have. the way to remove the two anti tamper bolts on your car is to take a dremil tool and a very fine very small cut off wheel and cut a slot into each "flush head bolt" turning them into flat head screw driver guys to remove. or easier way is to take a VERY sarp and fine punch and good quality hammer and hammer STRAIGHT down on the outside edge of the antitamper bolt digging the punch into it. now slowly start aiming your fine punch down and angle as you are hammering in a un-screwing kind of fashion. it unscrews like a bolt. the two bolts take maybe 7-8 revolutions apeice to get out. this process should only take you about 20min. you can take key tumbaler to lock smith from here or try and disect and repair your self. good luck

Suggesting that he use the crazy glue method was an attempt to solve his problem with no out of pocket expense of taking it to a locksmith and only having to pay for a replacement key. If he was considering buying a new or used ignition lock then trying this method has no negative effect...especially if it works. I'm not supporting a hack job, but I'm all for thinking outside the box to save money. The less you have to spend on repairs, the more you have to spend on performance.

hey,
tried the super glue method but it did not work. after an hr of using a drill and hammer i managed to get the ignition to acc with a flathead. time to hit up autozone for a replacement.

Well at least you got it out. I haven't had my car for two weeks now and it's killing me not being able to drive her so I feel your pain. Hopefully you'll be back on the road soon.
