Hi Everyone,

I just ordered a few bolt-ons for my daily driver 1990 TSi AWD today.

I ordered an aluminum intake pipe from Dejon. It's the CIP-1GW, pictured below. I have a 1gA, currently with a 14b but am upgrading to an E3 16G.

Next, I ordered hard intercooler piping kit from punishment racing. This just hooks up to the stock side mount. When I upgrade to a front mount, this kit will be swapped over to my 1990 GSX.

I also ordered a new "glow shift" boost gauge. The name alone seemed so ricey that I almost couldn't bring myself to buy it, but I've heard a few good things about the glow-shift boost gauges, so I figured I would give it a shot. I had an autometer for a long time that was great but it just got old and wouldn't go back to zero. SO I bought another one on ebay that turned out to be total junk. I should have known when it was only $20 and had "JDM" in the brand name... hahaha.

I have a couple questions about these parts.

Firstly, I'm wondering about the IC piping specifically. This is going on a 1990 with cruise control. It has the big cruise control box mounted directly next to the BOV and fuse box. Will I be able to retain my cruise control with this kit or will I have to get an n/a throttle cable and ditch the cruise?

Secondly, I had a question about the "glow shift" boost gauge. It has a "tinted face" and I was wondering if it is still easily viewable in daylight? I did some research and saw some videos on YouTube where it looked like it's pretty easy to read in daylight, but videos can be deceiving. The cheap-ass "JDM brand" gauge I'm running right now also has a tinted face, and it's impossible to read while it's light outside. It's probably the worst gauge I've ever used, and I've seen some pretty crappy gauges in my day. I was just going to buy the glow shift gauge without the tinting, but they only came with white gauge faces. I figured the white face would just stand out too much in the interior, so I decided to bite the bullet and try the 'tinted face' again.

Secondly, is anyone currently running any of these? I'd like some feedback on them, such as performance improvements, ease of installation, etc etc. I'm hoping the metal intake pipe will make the turbo spool and BOV sound a bit louder (it's the inner ricer in me coming out... sometimes I just cant help it. Love that turbo spool...)

Thanks!!! I cant wait until I get to install my new goodies. :thumb:

I am using a dejon 3 inch intake and I just got an evo MAS to hook up to it. Amazing quality and fitment. Also dejon will powercoat. I also got the aluminum one so its really light.

LOL your turbo spool sound will be enhance when you remove the stock aircan and filter, if you still have it on your car. Just getting a highflow KN filter and removing your super restrictive air can will get you a vacuum sound when you turbo spools. I love it. Not to ricey and also serves a purpose.

Most stock IC pipe replacements will not work with after market ICs unless you continue to use an aftermarket SMIC or go with the long route FMIC. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to save the CC as the aftermarket IC piping usually follows the stock route but uses metal instead of rubber/plastic.

The new intake will make a difference in sound, just keep the BOV recirculated unless you go with a GM MAF or speed density. I don't know about the Glowshift products, but I have heard that the DEFI gauges are hard to read during the day. They are the same style as the Glowshift; blacked out when off. Search Glowshift on here and see what pops up :)

The reason I'm worried about the cruise control location is because the piping on the '90 is a tiny bit different than the '91's and up, I think because of the cruise control.

Anyone else have this kit on their '90?

Since you have already bought it slap it on the car and see if it fits. Even if there are issues they shouldnt be bad enough to make the kit not fit.

I know it will fit one way or another, I just wanted to see if anyone was able to keep the stock cruise control location on their '90 with this kit.

I think your confusing the abs box with the cruise control. Cruise sits up on top of the intake manifold. The abs box with all the metal brake lines running to it is over by the fuse box and bov like your describing. Most IC kits are designed to clear the abs.

edit: Just dug up a pic of a '90 engine bay and I guess I'm wrong. I thought all 1g's had the cruise on top of the manifold.

Yeah the '90s have it in a weird spot. I dont have ABS, just a big ugly cruise control box ROFL
