Just installed my E16G!

Well I wanted to let the forum know I finally got my new turbo installed today. It took me and my roommate about 6 hours to do and was a bit harder than I imagined (Got drenched in coolant etc).

However, it's all worth it! The car now runs incredibly compared to my leaky 14b which wouldn't boost over 10psi. I'll be heading to the track at the end of the month for my first timeslip...

congrats man. and yep, you shoulda drained ALL of the coolant out before the install haha

Yep, I meant the Evo 3 16g... I just can't believe I did it. It's always a great feeling to know you installed something yourself that your local Mitsu shop wanted $440 for! Ack!

No leaks, and it boosts incredibly now. Next I just need my SAFC and I'm set for some big numbers! And of course the 650cc's... But I think I'll just raise my base pressure for awhile first...

I've been looking more now at the old 14b turbo I pulled out and why it wasn't working well... The turbine wheel appears to have eaten something at some point, and doesn't spin freely. In addition there are 4 cracks threw the wastegate port, and about 10 cracks threw the exhaust input port. Is this normal for a turbo that has been on a car for 188,000 miles?! Or does it mean I might have a cracked ring or something in the engine?

nope a turbo that's that old is definately prone to cracking. it's probably coked up if it was never turbo timed
