just installed cams, when started it up it wouldnt idle, would keep shutting off

Well I put in my comp 101200 cams in today. It went pretty good. When I first started it up it wouldnt idle and would keep shutting it off. I let it sit for a while and it seemed to run much better. It would stay idleing. But my vacuum is around 9hg at idle. Even before I put the cams in i would be around 11-13hg. Why is it so low?

My BC272s pull about 10 inches at a 1k idle. My timing is dead on, I just assumed its normal.

11-13hg of vaccum at idle is very low considering the mods in your profile before installing the cams. I'd expect to see 11-13hg AFTER your cam install so it sounds like you had a pre-existing issue.

That being said i'd start by checking the obvious vac leaks, compression, leakdown and verify base timing and report back with the results of each.

the thing is that when I did a boost leak test I had no leaks? Would that catch vacuum leaks too?

I will also double check the timing tomm hopefully. I am not going to drive it untill I make sure the timing is perfect.

I have some custom grind comps that are similar to the 200's and I'm pulling about 10 inches vac at 1k idle.

I was just in my bros car who has the same cams and he has 18-19 at idle. He does have a brand new motor with 8.8 if that matters.

ok, well I had my dad take a look at it. Turns out it was off 1 tooth. Fixed it and it runs good!
