just got my 98 talon tsi awd first impressions

well, i have had the car for over a week now, the first "impressions' were decent all i can say is not bad , not bad at all. i this much so far i would like a little more low end grunt. but before i start with any mods. i need to do some preventive maint . such as brakes, springs, and possibly the hub bearings all four. i just need to figure out whats normal and whats not. i had a little highway action my friend all ready. of course i got owned he has a 2000 mustang gt. my goal is just to stay even with him, this car is my daily driver so i dont wanna get to crazy with for right now. the only bad part is i had to buy a automatic. which really sucks but i will have to deal with it for right now. so what im asking , is the stage 1 mods enough to keep up with the mustang. thank in advance for help guys. im looking forward to having a lot fun with this , and hopefully meeting with up with some u guys

stage 1 mods will give you enough to not only keep up with but beat your friends mustang provided he hasn't done too much modding himself.

the car is going to suck until you get a torque converter that lets you launch and dsmlink to get rid of the timing drop between shifts (among its other 245245 benefits )

my 98 gsx had a ported fp big t28 at 18psi, ported exhaust mani and o2 housing, full 3" turboback, injen intake/filter, extreme motorsports uicp/bov, and the shift kit

best i ever ran was a 14.4, more consistantly it was in the 14.6 range. i made probably 50 passes while i had the car, across several tracks and weather conditions, shifting manually and letting the auto do it

2g autos are big fat pigs until pretty extensively modded

the only mods that he has is gears he went from stock to 3.73, he also has an automatic. i had a 1999 gt , but i had to sell it, i used to own him all the time. but now , im ready to take on the wonderful world of turbo's and all wheel drive
