Hey guys, I've been reading the site and have picked up some real good information in the past few days. I bought a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST which I pick up on wednesday, from what i know about the car it has no issues except a leaky sunroof and a few dings and dents on the passenger side which i believe can be taken care of without having to repaint.

Now onto other things, the eclipse has a 1st gen BOV but i don't know wether or not is venting to the atmosphere you can hear the blow off valve as you shift but is not incredibly loud, so my first question is "how do i know if its venting to the atmosphere?".

Second, the previous owner has a fartcan muffler on there, i dont like it, and i want to put on a REAL EXHAUST not just a muffler, i was thinking of going to one of the local shops down here (miami muffler) and having them do a custom set up, downpipe to test pipe all the way back to a nice muffler. Now my question is, what size would be ideal for this vehicle 2.5"? btw its all going to be mandrel bent not pinched bent.

Third, should i invest in a turbo timer? also, i'm looking to do a few mods off the bat, i read you FREE and Inexpensive mods, and i've seen a few intake tubes and what not but i'm leaning more towards just putting a K&N filter on there since most of you guys suggest just changing the filter.

Also the car is not too fast, feels like it runs high 14's maybe low 15's which is pretty slow, i wanted to know if that was the normal for these vehicles. The car just had a new tranny and clutch put in, tune up with all belts changed, and was well taken care off. Other then the leaky sunroof, which i read could be clogged drains or a not tight enough seal.

Well guys i would appreciate all the help, comments, and suggestions i can get.

Thanks in advance, and i'm glad i found this site..... :thumb:

Take a look under your hood on the upper intercooler pipe where the blow off valve is mounted and see if it has a short return hose mounted to it that connects to the intake pipe that goes from the outlet side of the maf sensor down to the turbo. If it does, then you are recirculating. If it doesn't have any hose connected to it, then you are obviously venting. I have a turbo timer on my car and feel it is definately always a good thing to have. Very convenient and good for the turbo overall. I'll let someone else field the other questions since my answers would only be opinion. BTW, congrats on the car! I love my 97 GST!

first off welcome. Secondly I think you would be better off with a prefabed exaust system I have an N1 2.5 in w 2.5 in downpipe. I think you would be verry happy with it and probabbly come out ceaper in the long run. hope this helps and happy modding :thumb:

go here, it shows you free mods to do as well as what steps you should take first to get the power you are wanting.

you can buy a 2.5" exhaust but if you ever plan on getting a larger turbo and making over 300whp then you are going to want to go with a full 3". But that can cause some boost creap problems. Do a search on the newbie forum for boost creep and 3" exhaust, you will learn a lot from that.

Follow that link above. Its tried and ture. It will get you to where you want to go
