i have been reading every thread i can about jdm motors. so far all i have got is scared LOL. lot of people saying that these companies are charging $1500 and up for a motor and its blown or something is messed up with it when they get it. I need to get a entire motor assembly, i just bout a car with no motor. im just wondering if i should buy a motor here thats a junker and tear it down and build it. Im just looking for something moderate, not 500hp or anything. i would be happy with a 100% bone stock 4g63t 7 bolt. any suggestions on companies to use for a jdm or should i stick to the states and go junk yard hoping?

well i have one in my car, all that comes with them is the yellow top injecto 510cc, a small 16g turbo. alot of people would probably say stick with lookiing for one locally, you can get it cheaper. and if your going to put a new motor in , some might tell you just to throw in a 6bolt, but it would be better to find one locally and just rebuild it, in my opinion

Advanced Auto sells a complete Long block for 1700$ and it comes with a 3 year warranty I would spend the extra 200 if your already gonna drop 1500 on one

edit:: when I checked Advanced Auto.....that was a long block Timed with all your water pump oil pump just needed to drop it in.

Try to find someone local selling a block or a complete engine. There is no advantage to buying a JDM motor and you can rebuild a motor or even throw some nicer parts into it for less money than you'll have into an imported motor.

I bought a jdm long block with 36 k on it, cyl 4 I think had lower compression than the rest, but I rbuilt the head with bc springs and retainers Evo viii injctors and ix pump 2g maf and fmic, big 16g , straight pipe exhaust and I love it. Jdm sounds like I have cams though 0_o

Those jdm motors are not that good. They say they have 50k on them when they really have 100k on them.

I agree, your better off buying a bare rebuildable block and going that route.

please explain how that is, if motors in japan must be switched out every 30k for smog reasons.

honestly i would buy a core and start building it... you can look in the classifieds like craigslist.com or junkers.

i wouldnt go JDM just for the simple fact JDM motors are abused so much more since the owners across seas know they get a new motor soon anyways.

for 1500 you can buy a block, head, and go aftermarket internals like pistons and cams at the very least including machine work.

just my two cents. :thumb:

Engines over there go through a lot more stress then they do here at the states. I bought my engine from a JDM engine import shop, and from what I was told, the traffic over there is horrible. So even though its only 30-50k miles, its 30-50k miles of constant stop and go traffic abuse.

Why do people insist on "JDM". They are the exact same engine. The only difference is that they came with different injectors, turbo and intake manifold and ECU. EVERYTHING else is the same. The EVO 1-3 motor did have a very slight change in the cam profile, but nothing to go crazy about to find one. Everything that was listed as different over USDM engines are parts that you will upgrade regardless. Find a motor locally and save yourself the hassle. I wish I would have known all of the troubles with these motors when I first decided to get one from my mechanic.
