I remember reading a long time ago that I could use a t-stat gasket from a chevy motor as my j-pipe gasket.... I forgot what engine, though... can someone shed some light on this for me? None of my auto parts stores have my jpipe gasket but the car is going together tomorrow! :(

Or what other alternatives can I use? I searched but got so many posts I could never sift through them all to find which thread it was in. It was not in anything named properly, it was inside another "i broke it" thread.

Yes RTV, it's what i have on my j pipe and it works great. Just be sure to get a good solid bead on it and give it plenty of time to set up.

I used the old gasket as a form to trace around on some of that cork gasket material that you can buy at any auto parts store. I love making my own gaskets and the cork is a for sure seal, because it crushes nicely. :thumb:

Have a friend give you a ride to the autoparts store, and take the j-pipe with you that way you can compare to different ones, thats what I did if you want a quick remedy. :thumb:

RTV will work but you have to wait till it drys. If your in a hurry use some blank cork gasket material and make you own gasket.

That gasket is one of the most important ones on your turbo system. They are very prone to boost leaks, and I don't trust just RTV myself. Plus any RTV that might ooze into the pipe can break off and go directly to your intercooler where it will be lost forever. I work at a parts store, and there are a few stat gaskets that I've found to match up almost perfectly, but the V8 GM wasn't one of them. It was a little too big and the bolt holes don't line up just right. My J-pipe is bigger than the stock one, and my turbo outlet has been ported so even a stock gasket won't line up correctly on mine. I was forced to buy a roll of gasket paper (around $5) and cut my own for a perfect fit. It's the best deal, you can make about 100 gaskets for the $5 I spent on the roll of paper.

I agree with jusmx about making your own gaskets. I've made all my gaskets from cork material since the black paper stuff wasn't sealing anything. They hold 20 psi just fine but if you are really wanting that chevy gasket then the part number is 35595 and its a fel-pro gasket. I used it and I had to trim it a little but it fit my dejon J-pipe just fine for my 14b
