Ok, I'm trying to find out if my car has the original tranny or not. So before searching, I went through the Drivetrain Tech and I came across this.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-drivetrain/244022-how-identify-90-transmisson-91-a.html

What do you know, I find out that my tranny is from a 99' GSX?! No way, I did some more researching.
Then found this.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drivetrain-tech/340732-kf5m332spzs-cant-find-info-anywhere.html

If the top article was correct, then rarest 90 DsM would have a tranny out of a different car, because there is no listed "Z", that's his 10th digit. There is no listing for Z.

I need to know what's going on because that is some misleading information, no offense to DSMcamaro. Either I'm doing something wrong, or the info is wrong.

My trans numbers are KW5M332NPXV - LT3198

Thanks for the help.

The NPXV suffix was used on 1991-1994 AWD turbo 5-speed transmissions. I have a dozen of them at my house. What do you want to know?

Get me the other serial number that is embossed in the bellhousing for more information on specific build date.

Otherwise, you will need to take it apart for me to tell you what year you have.

If you pull off at least the 5th gear cover, I can give you an idea of what age range it is from. I would need the 5th gear cluster and viscous coupler removed and the intermediate case section removed to tell you the overall age range of the transmission and its internal components.

*If you have the 5th gear cover off, and you inspect the 5th/reverse shift fork, there were two different shift forks used from 1989-1994. The aluminum shift fork was used from 1989-Early 1991, while the steel shift fork was used from Late 1991-1994.

*If you have the 5th gear assembly (Remove the 5th gear cover, then the end shaft nuts, reverse synchro, 5th/reverse hub and slider assembly, 5th gear, 5th intermediate gear, roll pin for 5th/reverse shift fork, and 5th/reverse shift fork removed), and the viscous coupler removed (Viscous coupler snap ring, viscous coupler, output shaft detent ball), and the intermediate case section (remove reverse switch and washer, 3x poppet plugs with springs and balls, then remove intermediate case section), then I can tell you a more specific age range.

*The center differential case on Late 1990-Early 1991 does not have a notch on its gear face.
*The center differential case on Late 1991-1994 does have a notch on its gear face.

*The 3/4 shift fork had several different part numbers over the years, but the revisions are only two parts used. The 1990-Early 1992 utilize a two-hole mounting point aluminum shift fork. The Late 1992-1994 use a 2G-style gearset and has a three-hole mounting point aluminum shift fork with a larger diameter hub and slider/synchro assembly (but the slider thickness is not so good -- it usually shatters around 350-400tq).

As well, the 3/4 shift rail has only one engraved line in the rail perpendicular to the rail itself on 1990-Early 1991's, the Late 1991-Early 1992's have two of these engraved lines.

Any more questions? Get me that other casting serial number on the bellhousing near the shift linkage.

Wow, thanks for all the info.
Twicks, I just wanted to find out if my car still has the original transmission that came with my car. In the process of finding that out I found a Tech Article that could have been misleading. It mislead me...

But those are the numbers? They're embossed on a little flat square that is pretty much right next to block, right on top of the trans.

But with those last couple digits, my trans is out of a 91-94 then?

There is ANOTHER SET OF NUMBERS EMBOSSED ON THE TRANSMISSION. They are near the lower area of the shift linkage on the bellhousing. They are in smaller size font than the model number you originally gave. It is 17-digits long. I need the entire list of letters and numbers. The 10th digit will tell you the build year based on what the letter is.

Please see this thread for my previous posts that directly show you where they are, and how to identify what transmission you have.
