Is this part necessary?

Is the intake manifold support bracket (steel piece that bolts between the throttle body and the CAS) really necessary?

Has anyone had any problems with the stock intake manifold cracking without it on there?

It's getting in the way of my -6AN fuel line - I'd like to make sure it's not a necessary piece before ditching it.

I have 6-an fuel lines and didnt have to remove the bracket, just get a 45degree fitting and angle it down, it clears it by about 1mm.

Yeah - I wish I would have known this beforehand. My only problem is that the fittings are what, $20.00 a piece? Plus I've already gone through the trouble of putting the stupid line together, which made me want to kill small animals.

Maybe if I do a FIAV blockoff, I can just get rid of the coolant lines and run the fuel line there.

I used a grinder on mine and I still had to use a 45* fitting when I built my line. That bracket is there to aid in pulling the motor. It says "manifold support bracket" in any of the books I've read but I'm not really sure if it supports much.

It would make sense to me that it actually supports the manifold...

I know what I'll do - I'll fabricate my own braket from sheet metal.

Sheet metal? Have you actually seen the bracket? It is made of cast iron and 3/4 of an inch thick? If anything just leave it off if you are just going to use sheet metal.

I have seen the original - in fact I was fooling with it all last night.

The "sheet metal" I'm planning to use is a quite thick chunk of steel. I'd venture to guess it's about 3/32'' - 1/8'' thick. It's quite beefy and shouldn't have much of a problem supporting the manifold.

The reason I originally bought the steel bar I plan to use was to fabricate swaybar mounts for another car.

Well I've seen some without it but it just seems to me if was there to begin with it must have a purpose. That purpose may be just for a pick point but hey who knows.

Im sure the 1/8" steel you have will support as much weight or more than the single 8mm stud that mounts it to the head. Keep in mind that you will have to get shorter bolts for the tb and use a spacer or shorter stud for the head/cas lockdown.

You don't need it. I put a 1G intake on my 2G and I removed it. It's overkill.

its no problem if you remove the spacer thing, but you should use shorter bolts... I didnt and I cracked my intake manifold, the bolt cracked right through, it doesnt leak though. just looks silly.

There are two supports that hold the intake manifold, the one you speak of, and one under the manifold that is bolted to the block. I'd keep one or the other...

I'll just take the mount off. If I can't find shorter bolts, I may have to just put a bunch of small washers in there to make up for the thickness.
