Is this overkill?? building engine up for high 11's?

OMFG ROTLOL

If you want a reliable 11 sec car screw the evo... the DSM trans and t-case has less bugs in it...

Shift forks have NOTHING to do with power capacity. If someone wails on the shift lever they WILL brake. 200hp or 2000hp.

Notice any "shep" transfer cases?

no

Notice the majority broken are dead due to neglecting a simple TSB that takes only minutes to fix.

Get the larger turbo and PM me if you need help with other parts.

1. The evo can and does make more power with less invested.

2. DSM transfer cases fail because of poor engineering and they only have TWO spider gears instead of 4. see: QUAIFE differentials

3. No I don't notce and "shep" transfer cases, or TRE ones for that matter. Because thats not what they do.

4. Sorry don't hear anyone on hear saying that with stock HP there having shifting and transfer case problems.

Prepare to get owned

1. Compare price for the car + mods

2. Geuss what einstein.. Tcases have two BEVEL gears. The stock DIFERENTIAL has two spider gears. Speed design and Shep build 4 SPIDER GEAR CENTER DIFFERENTIALS not TRANSFER CASES. See Quaife diffs. :p I HAVE HELD a quaife diff... See the first ones fail on the strip... I'm still not sure about them for high power despite their warranty even in racing apps. Ask the TRE guys why... Same reason that they recomend using the same stock center diff to make the 4 spider CENTER DIFFERENTIAL instead of a spare.

Four spider aftermarket CENTER DIFFERENTIAL

3. Maybe because with no leaks, clutch dumping etc they are strong enough. Now the EVO.... http://www.teamrip.com/Evolution.html

4. Personally I Dont have any shifting or tranfer case problems on my stock driveline (less clutch/flywheel change) at over 600hp.

Maybe when you slip launch right (nice and soft) and know how to shift + run the right gear lube you don't have so much problems. Don't shockload the driveline (dump) or slam shift.. Minimal force. It will go into gear when the synchro is good and ready.. If you do the right thing with the clutch pedal and gas pedal it synchronizes pretty quick on a stock 2g.

Just replace the U-joints with dealer ones so you don't brake one... Mine started to get loose not broken but Jabraham ran 10.6 or something with the same turbo as me on the first track runs and only broke a u-joint.. It was a generic replacement... I think mine were just old. Plus I have more hp... It's a fuel thing.

thanks numbnuts, an 18 year old cant afford to spend 25k on a brand new car...

back to the topic, my stock block can handle the boost? Is head work worth the price? What about cams? im a newbie when it comes to that stuff.

Just get the stock valves cut with at minimum a 3 angle valve job. Get a little smoothing of the ports and bowls. New seals etc. Headwork can get intense and radical but what produces the most gains for the least money is stupid/simple stuff. KISS theory and you wont go over budget. Figure out X$ on head then I'll know if you should get things like bronze guides, evo exhaust valves etc.

You have cast pistons and 1g rods... Dont shoot for over 400hp.... Basically don't max the thing out.. Even at a 16g's high boost levels you will have cooler air and make more power. The key is to have enough fuel and the right timing to not have knock. People have made upwards of 450hp on those rods and pistons but just starting out dont try it or you will fry it. Because they have been tuning these things longer then both of us.

I like the FP2 cams.. It's worth it.

Ok, ok out comes the white flag, not trying to start a war.

What I was trying to say was that for the post investment money (mods) more HP is capable with the EVO. Didn't know you were 18.

What i've read is that those to gears are the weak link in the transfer case and anyning over 350hp easy destroys them. So thanks for the info MNGSX i'm a little bit smarter now.

With the amount of experience he (orzech) has with DSM's and tuning in general, I can't imagine him pulling 12's, let alone 11's, without serious cash and lots of help from a shop. And in response to another poster: ..."it'll run 11's, easy" is pure fantasy.

A DSM in the eleven's is not going to be a happy daily driver.

This is a pretty good point. It won't be a happy DD. But the Driver will have a grin from ear to ear after stomping local Cobra's, F-body's, and the occasional Corvette. After 400 WHP you will definitly start breaking things. I was putting down roughly 320ish WHP when I really destroyed my tranny. That was a pretty expensive fix. You will come to find this stuff out over time. Treat her right and maintane her and you should be able to drive the car at least 80% of the time. Good luck.
