ok i know the 4g63 is a nasty little motor. ive done some research on em. i have the 420a with about 100k on it. i traded a $1000 truck for it cause i needed a good second vehicle. i like it enough that i plan on doing some cool stuff with it ( stereo, body and paint, maybe wheels, etc.. ) but before i get into the motor i'd just like to know if i'd be putting cash into a firepit. im not talking about a low teens drag car, i just want it to pass people on the highway with ease. all my driving is highway. my driveway is directly off the highway. i constantly get stuck behind people doing 50-55. it passes really well but.... you know i just wanna go a bit faster. i do plan to one day swap in a 4g63 turbo so i can make my brothers car look like a matchbox car but thats not til done the road. it has a performance intake ( whoopty freakin doo ) a new clutch and a rebuilt motor. im almost dead positive its a 420a. ok....... GO!

Definitely wouldn't plan on 4G63 swapping it until you do more research and find out exactly what's all involved(I'll give you a hint and say the motors are 180* reverse of each other, and one is made by dodge, the other mitsubishi.). As far as making it fast...I wouldn't really hold out too much hope. I'd leave it alone, and save your money. When you can afford it, buy a GSX for the "fast" car. You'll waste 3x the amount making the 420a as fast as a bolt on 4G63T DSM would be.

ok makes sense. ive done some pretty tough swaps but it was always a chev 350 into something wierd. so what about the typical fun stuff: exhaust, some shiny engine stuff, maybe a chip?
i traded my project for it so i just want to make it a little more fun. it already drives like its on rails which is awesome. i already beat a honda civic hatch with a fart can the other day. next is this dude that likes to ride my a** every morning in an f150 with his dagone hid lights

If you want to make your 420a fast check out dodge neon forums, but you will have to upgrade the whole engine, fuel system, computer, ect to boost it.

If you want a 4g63, spiff up your ride and put it for sale with a good price, sit and wait til someone buys it then buy a gst/gsx eclipse/talon.

To answer your thread title. Yes I say it is a POS and this is from experience I had one and it was junk, sold it, lost compression a week later. Felt bad for dude but he should have expected it was worn out, I told him it burned oil and puffed smoke on the freeway LOL.

heres that pos LOL
check out that awesome vented pcv system and custom intake
LOL LOL LOL

Your all spot on. Today I realized it " feels fast " from 1st to 3rd and that's it. I had to try pretty hard to pass an a hole in a prizm. It gets great mileage so maybe I'll just maintain it well and do comp audio out of it since I'm already saving up for that stuff.

If you want to go the swap route and be different (don't, get a GSX instead) you can swap the Evo 8 4G63T in. It's 180* from our 4G63 motors. The swap has been done a handful of times.

Other cars came out of this collaboration as well though not classified as a "DSM". There was the 3000GT/Stealth, the Starion/Conquest, the Expo/Summit Wagon, and the Mirage/Summit among others.
