Is this a real HKS BOV?

I just bought myself a GSX. It came with a vented HKS bov, without the proper setup. NO!!! haha I just want to know if it's real. Also if this recirc fitting will fit the bov, no matter wether it is real or not.

Nope, I'm sure you could make something to get a flange you can clamp a tube on.
If not, I would even buy that recirc tube for real hks' and make it fit.

It "looks" real. The fakes never had the HKS emblem on the housing. Then again it is easy to swap. The quality of the product in the real one is much better overall if you held the 2 side by side.

someone with experience with both can easily spot it.

Also dont think it's automatically "fake" if there is no "adjustment" screw in the back. HKS had a revision before the "NEW" fancy looking SSQV came out where they had removed that screw.

Obvious give away on the fake is the diaphragm, the knockoffs rip easy. It's been so long for me to use HKS I forgot how the authentics innards looked, but the knockoffs' rip easily and once its ripped you cant replace it like the Greddy knockoff.

As for the fitting, whether the BOV is REAL OR NOT it will work. After you remove the housing you will see the simplicity of it's design and ever wonder why China hasn't made it for so much cheaper than buying the overpriced authentic recirc piece.

TIP, when you buy the recirculation piece, the outside diameter of it is still much smaller than the stock BOVs (think 1g), so if you dont mind overly tightening the stock 2g recirc tube it will be ok, but what i did was just go to home depot or somewhere that sells silicone hose, just the right size to go over the hks recirc tube so It fits rather perfect.

BTW, couldn't handle the FWD any longer? what made you decide to get the X? any pics, etc?

Thank you very much guys. I think Im going to go ahead and buy the the recirc fitting. Oh and even without having the fitting in fron of me I knew the stock recirk tube was going to be a bit bigger than the fitting, thanks for the tip. The HKS sounds MEAN when vented. Too bad the ppl before me didnt do a proper setup. But the car runs absolutely perfect, no idle or cruise issues at ALL. Idk.

Oh and yeah Red, I needed to upgrade. haha. I picked this puppy for a pretty good price. I will make another thread with all my installs as time goes. Ill link later.

Looks real to me, the fakes have an orange diaphram inside and the real ones have a purple one. So thats something you can check out. Looks exactly like the real HKS bov I picked up at Buschurs a few years ago. Like red mentioned the first litter of them had the adjustment screw that really doesn't do anything. The rear portion looks real too, having the angles at the back.

It looks to be purple so I guess its real... so to get it straight, I can use the fitting that I linked above on this HKS? I mean this IS the 'old school' one from what I understand.

Ya it real and look on ebay they make recirulation fittings that go in there, you just remove the little fins and replace with the recirc tube. I bought one for mine and it works great.
