is the engine supposed to run hot??

To be completely honest, if there was an engine fire I doubt it was caused directly by engine heat. If someone had replaced wiring and not used high temp (usually teflon) coated wiring that might be a problem. But if he wrecked it I would be willing to bet the blaze started after the impact or had nothing to do with engine temp. Like everyone else here, I've never heard of our cars catching fire for anything less then a critical failure of EVERYTHING under the hood.

hmmmm aight ill see wut i can do.

and yeah i know i wanna go ta canada ta get a car but i cant find any canadian search engines ( autotrader.com ext.) i looked in the vancouver sun, and found like one NT talon, and a 92 base prelude, and a 90 civic si.....:S

Any engine is hot enough to catch on fire, however the design of it keeps that possibility to a minimum. In that aspect DSM is just as good (if not better) as other cars. Keep in mind that after an accident, structure of the engine 'changes' drammatically, so flamable objects can be pushed directly against hottest parts of the car (turbo, exhaust etc)

As for heat, my friends '99 camry had its headers lit up as bright as a torch after 15 min of keeping up with some DSMs (not even racing, just keeping up). You can imagine what would happen if you push anything flamable against it.

on the side note: If your mom actually considers a possibility of you turbocharging a civic (or any other car for that matter) without going into a shock, you've got coolest mom outhere... he he.

You should've seen my parents faces when they saw T04 arriving...
I'm 21 btw.

The only 'common' thing that involves engine fires with these cars is the dipstick popping up. When it does, oil can blow back through the dipstick and spill. What's under the dipstick? If you said a scorching hot downpipe, you are correct. When oil and fumes meet a scorching hot object it can catch on fire, and have your self a nice oil fire under the hood.

Dalk to GreenGSX on this board about that if you are interested.

i wrecked mine the day i bought it (racing a 3.8 SII firebird) at over 120, caught my brakes on fire and went into a ditch. no airbags...

theres all kinds of sh1t you can do with the passenger airbag area.. tv, playstation.. if you like rice.. and fvck it.. rice is cool

I have heard of a DSM engine catching fire, it had some oil that spilled on the turbo when the mechanic was working on it. and it caused it to catch fire...pretty crazy!!!
