hey guys ive got a 96 n\t 420a eclipse, not mods except exhaust and airfilter. well when its pretty worm outside and ive been driving my car for a while (15-20 min) i open the hood and it feels like a freakin sauna in the engine bay, but my car runs fine, the engine temp gauge is just below tha half way make but its alway been like that every since ive had it, no oil in the anitfreeze or vice-verca but after awhile of driving and i want to drop a gear and get on it, it feels like its lost power, but the engine runs nice and smooth, it just feels really hot in the engine bay. any thought on some things i should check?
somebody told me i should flush the coolant system and fill it with straight water and a bottle of water wetter?

Sounds like its got a lower temp thermostat installed.Hot muggy air usually makes our n/t even more helpless. Especially down in memphis man it gets muggy in the summer down ther i remember spent a summer there once. :thumb:Swapping out coolant is always good once a year at least, underhood temps are hot anyways.

Ya'll you'll be aight, B4 I went turbo, my engine always felt fastest right when the gauge was starting to rise to its peak temp. And when on the hwy you might feel that loose tranny feeling when you drop it in a gear, thats the heat for ya. good luck down there man. Try and get that Cold air intake going, especially one like the AEM where the filter is located out of the engine conpartment. A Bigger Throttle Body and Ported Intake manifold willl let that air in there faster too.

Yes cold air intake, or modify yours and block it away from the heat. Best I have seen is the cai that goes down to the bumper and cathes all the air when moving. As long as your temp guage doesn't pass half point you should be fine.

hey i just ordered my cold air intake i got a 2kracing cai (does anyone know anything about them or has anyone heard anything about there cai?) but im going to plush the coolant system and put 100% water in it with a bottle of water wetter and change the thermostat to a 180 degree and when i get my new header im going to wrap it in thermo tec wrap, i have a hand held temp gauge i use on my nitro cars and there very acurate, but i took it and checked my cylinder head temp and it was 215 degree, is that good, bad or ok?

I guess thats okay in memphis.....Does anyone see a problem or any other reason why you still want to keep coolant in there instead of 100% water?

Depending on your wheather, you don't want your coolant to freeze or boil.... You can always try water, but I think you might have troubles down the road. You might want to keep atleast a little coolant in there though.

Remember the fans running constantly will tax the engine alot more, so just keep that in mind.

EDIT: I know here in Cali weather no coolant means over heating on a daily basis if you drive it often.

You could wire your secondary fan to be always on, that would help cool it down a bit. Make sure your rad fans are working though, before my fan broke and the temp. gauge didn't show signs of overheating... OMG

well the reason i didnt want to go 50\50 is because when you add the water wetter the affect of cooling it isnt as great as it is with water so it shows on the label? any other opinions you guys are helping me out alot thanks.

theres the link to the cai it was 99 dollars no shipping either but what do you mean by if i bypass my fans it will tax the engine?? and about the coolant what is i put atleast a quarter of antifreeze and the rest water with a bottle of water wetter? how does that sound?
I just means you will always have that little bit of power being sucked off the engine. A 75/25 mixture is what a few people recomended me today when I asked, so I see no reason why not.
