Is my boost level normal?

Hi everyone. So my 95 TSI AWD is currently boosting at 9 psi max. I thought this was normal at first but I've heard that stock boost is from 12-15. The wastegate actuator is connected directly to the turbo nipple. So now I'm wondering if something is wrong. I've heard of doing a boost leak and I'm going to try that really soon. Gonna re-read over on how to do it. But is there anything obvious I'm missing or is this normal?

The main point I was gonna bring up is my BOV. It is the Turbo RFL XS BOV. What I'm thinking is the coupler thing connecting the intercooler to the BOV, it's like "ripped", it looks like it burst open. It started affecting my idle but my mechanic temporary sealed it with alot of tape and my car has been running fine since. The boost level was the same from before I went to my mechanic, and since I bought the car actually. I was supposed to replace the coupler with my mechanic but I never got back to him due to financial issues. I posted some pictures so you can see, you can still kind of see the tape. Any suggestions?

Also I have a better picture of the BOV itself but it's in one of my other posts and it won't let me upload the picture.

Not sure if OP is troll, or real question.

I'm wondering as well. Putting tape on your boosted vehicle :ohdamn:

Buy a real BOV. 1g is what I rock. Take a look at some peoples profiles, their galleries, that will give you some ideas in the right direction.

Search the forums a bit for BLT, 1g bov blow off valve, recirculating bov. Read read read. EVERYONE has done this Infinity times over. Do not think your questions are the first to be asked.

your bov not being recirculated is a bad boost leak in itself. your maf is metering the air drawn through it and when you shift or release the gas peddle and the bov releases the pressure in the intake track to the atmosphere, that metered air is now no longer there but the ecu still thinks it is and dumps in gas as if it were still there. as a end result your car will run rich. fix this and do a boost leak test and fix any other leaks.

also check for exhaust leaks the are just as bad as a boost leak and will kill your spool time and max boost pressure depending how bad they are. i had a terrible couple of exhaust leak on my bottom of my exhaust mani and i couldnt boost over 9 psi till i replaced it now it holds what ever i set my boost controller too.

I couldn't get my 1g to idle right until I recirculated it. Kept surging. This is after making changes to the ic piping and not having the right hose ;). I've got a stocker I can send your way if you need it. Won't hold much but it'll get ya running right. Pm me if ya want it

Don't get me wrong guys I've read countless threads/articles about recirculating, how bad boost leaks can be and how bad venting is. It's just that after reading so much I've heard so many different answers to the stock boost from 9-15 psi, so I was trying to make sure. Also I'm pretty sure that the tape is leaking I'm going to fix that really soon. Also yes I'm going to do a BLT really soon as well.

I've gotten countless remarks about recirculating my BOV, but for this specific one, it is IMPOSSIBLE. I really appreciate everyone trying to get me running right, but that's the BOV that came with the car when I purchased it and I'll definitely try to replace it with a more reliable one, most probably a 1g.

I wasn't really wondering how to increase boost, just checking to see if my boost right now is ok. Which to me seems ok judging from the answers I've seen right now. Just as general information my car has been running perfectly fine since I got it, except for when the coupler burst but I've been driving it fine, idles fine at the moment. This is of course not gonna keep me from fixing the small things, as I'm more looking to make changes to PREVENT, not FIX. That's why I ask the small questions.

But thanks to everyone so far, you guys are definitely steering me in the right direction. I know it must me annoying to see a noob handling his car like this, but trust me it's just as annoying to me to know that there are things to be done, but can't because I lack the knowledge. Bare with me for now LOL, I definitely don't plan on wrecking my car or blowing it up.

Everything I was going to say has been said already, but you're in Toronto. Join the DSM Canada Forums as well. There are a ton of local guys in the GTA/Toronto region (myself included) who are willing/able to help and it'll be easier to find parts locally on there.

Tuners is great as well, but the more options you have, the better...and something local is always nice :)

O damn, I'm in oakville LOL i didn't even see he was in tdot you can pay me any day to replace couplers for you:) or weld shiny stainless things :)

Reguardless what the stock boost level is or was. I was able to safely get 18psi out of my t25 all stock gsx with stock injectors with no harm to anything.

I had ecmlimk and wasnt changing anything from stock, just using it to view how things were running. Nonwideband at the time thougj.
