Is it safe for me to do the free MOD to the BOV? Will any damage occur?

I am just wondering if any damage can be done to the motor if this is done without the MAF sensor? What else am I missing?

What "Mod" do you intend on doing?

You need to recirculate. Or you will have problems.

Crushing it is fine, but don't crush it too much, or it will leak.

The 1g BOV may be crushed to allow it to hold more boost on the highend and to not leak at part throttle applications. Crushing the BOV, in short, entails placing the BOV in a vice and slowly crushing it (making it shorter not skinnier). The trick is to use a vacuum pump (hand is fine) and gauge and crushing the BOV until it remains closed at about 20 mmHg. So don't just stick it in a vice and crush it 0.x inches. You have to use a vacuum gauge to do it right.

You can compress the blow off valve body, so it slightly compresses the spring( making it stiffer) so it will hold more boost. To compress it there are different ways people use. I always take the BOV and put it in a vice with a golf ball on the top of the diaphram(the green part of the BOV) and push the top down so the gold ball just barely can sit on top without it rolling off. A quarter turn does it.

I've ran a 1G crushed on my EVO for a while and worked. I, personally, don't feel comfortable doing something like that. I traded an uncrushed 1G BOV for one that was modded to a friend who works at a shop so I trusted his integrity. From how it sounded, I guess it's easy.
