Is FWD worth modding???

i like driving a fwd because it's more of a challenge. (and cheaper) driving awd doesn't take as much skill, you rev and drop the clutch. fwd, you have to feather it gently and find the right rpms to rev at. i say fwd.

I love my FWD! I've had my GST for three years now and can take off all most any time w/o losing significant traction. I have a lot of bolt-ons but the stock t25 still. We'll see what happens when I upgrade the turbo:D

I have one of the rare TSi's that are FWD, but I love it. Most of my races have been from a roll and the top end is great.

I haven't been to the track yet, but over time, and some practice, anyone can launch a FWD and get good 60' times.

I had a fwd and hated getting beat off the line, now I got a awd with tons of mods and Im breaking sh.T left and right. I spend more time wrenching on my awd than my fwd. But I love the traction to much. Theres pros and cons for both awd and fwd, it all depends on what kind of racing you wanna do and how much money you have.

Take one stock FWD Turbo DSM, put an exhuast and K&N on it, turn up the boost. Beat a bunch of Mustangs and Camaros and call me in the morning!

The FWD cars just flat out haul once they get traction. Plus, they only weigh 2750, and that's before you pull the spare tire, jack, bumpers, AC :D

Hmmm...I've never heard Pro Motion (owners of a wicked fast NEON) say we've hit 9s, we need to stop making the car faster because it's not AWD. Most cars are not AWD, they are either FWD or RWD, but that doesn't stop people from getting every ounce of power out of the motor. I look at it like this...I have a FWD AUTO, am I going to leave it stock just because people say that AUTOs suck, or that FWD sucks...HELL NO. I'm going to mod the hell out of it becasue it's what I like to do. And the extra kick is that later I get to humiliate the people that said it was a waste of time when I spank the hell out of them at the track. If it bothers you that much that you have a FWD you have to choices. One, sell the car and get a GSX. Two, tell youself that they never made a GSX and that this is the best you have to work with. Just my opinion.

I just want to say that a FWD Eclipse with an LSD, prothane motor mounts, and good clutch= awesome launches, if you know how to drive plus these mods, I have seen 2.0 sec 60's and faster with slicks.;)

Well I got my 90 laser RS with 96k miles for 700 bucks! heh the wastegate was stuck open or something and the turbo wasnt working, halfway home it just started boosting though :) car had some front end damage but got it fixed... er anyway the tires that were on it SUCKED ASS, and the shitty rims were all bent. I replaced with a set of 17 inch rims and 215/45/ZR rated tires and the wheel hop is almost nonexistant now. Granted im only running 16psi of boost now but getting rid of the shitty tires was a huge improvement. :)

When I did my suspension it only helped more. Some adujustable shocks/struts are always nice too. :)

Of cours AWDs are cool, but I couldnt find one with less than 120k miles on it, or it had a crack piston, was too expensive etc.

Im happy, I can launch it good now, and it wieghs 300 lbs less than an AWD.

If we wanted a challenging car to make fast we'd all start with Hyundai's or Geo's

LOL no doubt. I wouldnt call that a challenge I would call it a complete waste of time.

At first I didn't like my TSi FWD because of wheelspin. Then I put on different tires which were 215's (stock=205) and now I can punch it from 15km/h and not spin at all, I just get hauled to the back of my seat
;). Ever since I put those new tires on I've loved my car. It still doesn't spin in first and I have all the free mods, a 2.5" turbo-back exhaust, K&N, and a couple other small things.

These are the tires I'm running,

And they only cost me $1200 Canadian:)

You fwd guys have NO concept of fast. If you build a truly fast (450+ hp) fwd DSM you wont be able to hook up in ANY gear and that is just dumb. I also think its pretty safe to say that all of you guys would get plenty of time to read my new custom plate if we raced from a roll.

Well I dont know about other peeps here, but I for one know what fast is LOL. If you think 450 hp is alot than you might want to take a ride in my uncle's 800 hp 67 chevelle sometime. Technologicaly advanced its not, but its got a shitload power.

There are ways to get traction, AWD is just much easier. I dont know why "truly fast" means 450 hp LOL. With 300, and the right driver you run side by side with a C5 vette.

I could care less about 450 hp, Im never going to get that high. Especially when the car is my daily driver, there is just no way no matter if its AWD or not. 300 in this car is more than enough to embarass most cars I will run into on the street and run decent times at that track. Hell im not the best at luanching it, when it was stock my friend ran a 14 flat at the track on the shitty ass aqua tread H rated tires it had on it when I bought it with no mods at all. The wheel hop was extremely bad than.

Funniest thing I've seen in a while, but, unfortunately for me, true--except for the part about plenty of time to read your plate. Something tells me it would be too far away to get a good look at it.

What you aren’t making 450hp on pump gas? :p

You can get a 300hp fwd car to hook up just fine and hey that might be fast enough for you. But my goals go way beyond running door to door with a stock c5. If you have extreme goals I dont see how you can accomplish them with a fwd car. If I spin 3rd in an awd car I can only imagine what a fwd car would do.

Look, I'm not here to get into this crap I see started about FWD is better, or AWD. First thing first, take a look at yourself. What is it that you want? If you are leaning more towards track use, go AWD. If you are more towards the street go with FWD. Now this isn't saying that FWD can't run on the track, and AWD can't run on the street.....but most guys know what I mean......In the end it is gonna be alot harder (track wise) for a FWD to step up to an AWD. But if you do decide to mod your FWD, then be prepare for a long road ahead.........

This isnt directed at you, As I see you understand what Im saying. However alot of people on these forums seem to think everyone wants 400+ hp, which just isnt true. For one, 400 hp isnt cheap, maintaining your car with 400 hp isnt cheap, gas isnt cheap :) hehe

Its like, "youll never get traction with 2035082150845 hp!!!!" LOL well no shit

This is the key to the awd v. fwd arguments we always have. If you have a street car, with the exception of top speed racing, fwd blows for "extreme goals." But if you want a dependable daily driver that you can mess around with and make a little extra power, fwd is fine. That's all my gst's used for.

I love my FWD, from a roll is sick. Luanching FWD is an art and takes practice. I've yet to run on DRs or slicks, but got down to 2.1 60ft on some shitty kumho tires. But that was back on the 14b. launching the 20g is way different. No DSBC here, just 18psi to spin the crap outta 1st, and second and hope to hook up in 3rd.

My friend and fellow wisemas HighPsi91 likes to say that out of every $1.00 spent to modify a FWD about 45cents is wasted. I always thought that was pretty funny.
