I did a search, and didn't come up with anything, so here goes.

If, using Ipod Linux on an ipod, with the right software could it be used as a data logger? You'd have to get a dock connector obviously and wire it up, but I don't see why it couldn't work.

Input?

I've never personally heard of anyone using an ipod, but you can get a palm pilot to use as a logger for pretty cheap.

Sure, I don't see why it wouldn't work unless Apple purposefully added some proprietary interfacing that can't be adapted...

I know of at least one datalogging program for ELM based dataloggers that was specifically meant to be run on Linux. If you can get that program up and running on the iPod, then the rest should be easy. I don't know how well it'll display, but it might be worth a shot.

The logger itself connects to the Palm/laptop/iPod via three wires: one for serial data, one for ground, and one for +5V. That should be easy enough to connect.

If you try it, please share how you did it and how well it worked. You could do a Tech write up on it, if you're willing.

Could you tell me what the name of that program is? If I get the name I could try posting it on the Ipodlinux forums to see how hard it'd be to get running on an Ipod.

Thanks for mentioning that though.

I believe that physically its possibleto run a logger on an ipod but someone will have to make the program, find all the problems, make a cable, its possible but will take time

If I remember right, Ipod Linux is a verson of linux modified to work with the Ipod's input, and hardware. So, if that software made for Linux is good, we might be able to find someone in the community that could modify the program.

I'm interested in this because it would minimize the amount of electronics cluttering up the interior, number of lights shining at you while you drive, and it would make life a bit more simple IMO. However, untill the program could be made/modified, it will be a pain getting it to work.

But then again, they did get the original Doom to work with Ipod Linux, so I don't see why it wouldn't be too hard.
