Hey guys I need some advice. I have a 1997 gsx bone stock with 140000 miles on it. I want around 300-350 all wheel hp and I need to know if I upgraded to an evo big 16g and put my injen turbo intake,msd and other things would I have to worry about my internals seeing as I have 140000 miles. Will it be a bad idea to start modding with stock internals?(Btw my car runs absolutely perfect not one thing is wrong with the car) thanks guys

If there isn't any problems and the car is running good I dont see why you would have any issues. You have to do your homework though, READ, READ, READ! Install a boost gauge and a AFR gauge now! You don't have any options of skimping when it comes to creating a fast reliable car and those two items are very important unless you want a ticking time bomb. :thumb:

Dudes right you need to do some homework. E3 16g's make anywhere from 300-330HP. 350 is pushing it on pump gas giving the turbo's efficiency. Some other mods you'll need is bigger injectors(550cc), fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, exhaust, and something to tune with(SAFC). :hellyeah:

stock internals should be good for your goals, like mentioned the turbo would almost be out of its efficiency range. and for tuning check your car for the plastic case ecus ceddy has gotten so much work one these and they have great potential. i just picked up a late 97 ecu and i think its anything after july buld date has them. (i took this cut from ceddys post)

1998 -> 7/97-5/98 MD346675(FWD) and MD346676(AWD)
1999 -> 6/98-4/99 MD359402(FWD) and MD359403(AWD)

(as a side note i ran 25 PSI on my 50 trim precision turbo on stock internals with nothing more than supporting mods and safc with 560s)

Good luck.

If you are concerned about your internals, do a compression test and a leak down test to see the actual condition of the motor. Most people don't need to upgrade internals unless certain HP goals are wanted. The 2g is good for those numbers and then some more. I wouldn't try to push 400 though on the 2g rods. As njdaewoo said, you need to do a lot of reading to understand these cars and how the motors perform.

You have to do your homework though, READ, READ, READ! Install a boost gauge and a AFR gauge now!
No need for AFR gauge as they are crap and serve no purpose. What you DO want is a wideband o2 for accurate readings. A boost gauge should be the first mod you do to your car. The stock boost gauge is not accurate and just shows that you are having positive air pressure.

:hellyeah:
The E316G has made much higher HP numbers with the proper tune, boost and fuel. Going out of a turbo's efficiency is not a HP number but rather the psi being used. Each turbo has a range where it's optimal boost is and once you go past that, the turbo works harder, air heats up and doesn't produce anymore power. That's out of it's effiency range. Take the t-25, it's good for up to 15psi roughly, but you can have multiple HP ratings at the 15psi being made depending on fuel, air temp etc.

Do some reading and figure out what you really want to do with the car in the future. The worst thing to do is buy parts multiple times. If you feel you'll want more than 300-350 in the future, plan ahead now and research multiple parts and find out why people run one thing over another.

Here you can see what would be needed to run some numbers, but just make sure all of your maintence is taken care of first. Even though your car runs great, modding will show the weak links.
